Fortnite Chapter 2 started with a bang as players witnessed the rebirth of the world after it got sucked into a massive black hole. A lot changed during the transition though, including the map and the way players can level up and earn XP (experience points). The biggest change in terms of leveling up though Epic’s decision to ditch the Battle Stars in favor of a much more simplified progression system.
In addition to the Battle Stars, the entire tier system has been removed too in hopes of making leveling up less tedious. Instead, Fortnite Chapter 2 has a bunch of new ways to earn XP and level up for newer cosmetics. However, the biggest addition to the leveling system are the new Medals that really change the dynamics of earning XP.
Initially, earning XP was a grind in Fortnite Chapter 2 but after the last couple of patches, Epic has bumped up the rewards for completing actions.
1. Earn more XP by getting Medals:
While the usual Fortnite stuff like getting kills and staying alive does get you some XP, the new Battle Medals can really help with multiplying that number and turning it into a sizeable haul at the end of every day.
Medals are Fortnite’s version of a daily quest and reward system. Each day you are given a Medal Punchcard that has certain tasks on it. Every task you complete from the list will earn you a medal worth a whopping 8,000 XP. Furthermore, every 5th and 10th challenge you complete will result in 16,000 XP boosting your overall total for the day.
In theory, if you earn 10 medals every day, you could end up earning 96,000 XP every single day which is massive. The Medal Punchcard refreshes every single day at 6 am PST and 9 am EST.

The best way to get Medals in Fortnite Chapter 2
Usually, most medals are pretty straightforward with a very simple task at hand. However, some of the medals are somewhat reusable as they change every time you earn them and get upgraded to a higher tier (bronze, silver and gold). So, you have to complete certain tasks multiple times in a match to earn the higher tier medals. Here are some of the medals that are available initially:
- First Match Medal: Just play a match to earn this medal. This can only be earned once every day.
- Scavenger Medal: Search through chests, supply llamas and drops to earn this medal. The Scavenger Medal upgrades after every 4th item searched so search through 4 different items for Bronze, 8 for Silver and 12 for Gold.
- Survivor Medal: Survive through the match as far as possible to earn this medal. You get a Bronze medal for top 50, Silver for top 25 and Gold for a top 10 finish.
- Assist Medal: Get an assist for an elimination to earn this medal.
- Battle Medal: Getting eliminations will help you earn this medal. Eliminate 1 opponent for Bronze, 4 for Silver and 8 opponents to get a Gold medal.
We have established different possibilities for earning medals. However, some of the higher tier medals are can be hard to get in a single match like the Gold Battle Medal. So, in order to combat that, what you could do is try to earn these medals in Team Rumble mode. Team Rumble makes earning higher tiered medals much easier.
2. Complete Fortnite Chapter 2 Weekly Challenges:
Weekly challenges have always been at the top in terms of earning and stacking up XP. While they may not be as potent as the new medals anymore, they’re still extremely valuable. In Fortnite Chapter 2, the weekly challenges have remained more or less unchanged. They present you with 11 objectives every week that can include tasks like visiting places and eliminating players in a certain way.
In Chapter 2, completing a single challenge can give you a massive boost of 54,000 XP. So, if you complete them all, you could end up earning 594,000 XP in a single week. In addition to that, these challenges don’t change every day like the medals either. So, there is no rush to complete these and you could spread the 11 challenges out over the entire week and complete them at your own pace.
3. Visit different landmarks on the map:
If you’ve just started out on Fortnite Chapter 2, exploring the map can be a great way to get some initial XP boost. The map is littered with different named locations and landmarks. Visiting and discovering each landmark can get you 2,000 XP and there are over 40 different locations dotted around the map. So, the XP can add up to a very sizeable number in no time in Fortnite Chapter 2.
Here are some of the locations marked on the map that you could visit to earn some extra XP in Fortnite Chapter 2:
In addition to that, you’ll stumble upon these locations in many of the matches anyway. Strategizing your approach and knowing the ins and outs of the map is a crucial part of being successful at Fortnite. So, exploring the map will not only earn you XP, it would also potentially improve your overall game and increase your chances of success.
4. Play Team Rumble mode:
Team Rumble has been an absolute revelation when it comes to earning a higher amount of XP. Usually, when you drop into a normal match, chances are that you’ll probably dip out of it before the end as it is rare to survive till the very end. Furthermore, you’re always in a rush and thus cannot really fully focus on just getting eliminations or completing other XP related tasks either.
However, in Team Rumble, that is not the case anymore as players are guaranteed to survive in the world till the very end. So, not only do you get a massive XP bonus for surviving till the end, you can also focus on some of your other tasks that help with getting those precious experience points.
Team Rumble is also very good for just getting better at combat as you don’t have to start all over again each time and can dedicate your time to getting better at eliminating other players.
5. Play Fortnite Chapter 2 consistently:
Fortnite requires a certain level of persistence and consistency in order to earn a decent amount of XP. While this does not necessarily mean grinding the hell out of it, you do need to clock some hours into the game to level up as there is no hack around getting XP. You can always be on the lookout for power level weekends for some additional XP boost.
In addition to that, doing basic things in Fortnite Chapter 2 also earns you a small amount of XP. While the XP you earn from doing these can seem minute at first, these do add up to a bigger number over the course of a match. These include fishing, searching chests, pulling off a headshot, getting eliminations and dealing specialist damage among other things.
List of everything that will give you additional XP
- Knock down an opponent: 60 XP
- Assist a teammate with an elimination: 210 XP
- Eliminate an enemy: 255 XP
- Open a chest: 215 XP
- Open a supply drop: 190 XP
- Get the first blood: 420 XP
- Be the first to land: 370 XP
- Play your first match of the day: 6,000 XP
- Get a headshot elimination: 75 XP
- Open an ammo box: 190 XP
- Upgrade your weapon: 190 XP
- Find a fishing spot: 105 XP
- Get a 5 Killstreak: 85 XP
- Get a 6 Killstreak: 40 XP
- Revive a player: 100 XP
- Consume a forgeable item: 35 XP
- Reboot a player: 500 XP
- Open a Supply Llama: 1,000 XP
- Reach the new circle: 150 XP
While these XP bonuses do not look very big on face value, they do add up over time and can really help with leveling up faster in Fortnite Chapter 2. In addition to that, most of these things do not require any additional effort anyway and are just a part of every single match.
At the end of the day though, you’ll only advance through the ranks if you are consistent. There are no other alternatives. Earning some of the higher tiered XP rewards can be difficult but with perseverance, those will come to you to. Finishing those daily objectives will also help you with just getting better at the game which, in turn, will help you with earning more XP.
