The race for the next generation consoles is heating up as both Sony and Microsoft go head to head in anticipation of their releases scheduled for the Holiday season later this year. While Microsoft has taken the aggressive approach with their marketing, revealing everything except the exclusive games for Xbox Series X, Sony has opted for a quieter route so far with the PlayStation 5 reveal still on hold.
Having said that, the fact that the PlayStation 4 has absolutely destroyed Xbox One this generation due to a disastrous start by Team Green has given Sony enough leeway to experiment with their strategy and to keep their cards hidden for now. And, although this does mean that they can take a reactive strategy and thus alter their plans according to Microsoft, this can only go on for so long.
With the Holiday release window fast approaching, Sony fans have been growing impatient and frustrated at the lack of communication from the Japanese console manufacturer. So, a couple of days ago, to the delight of all PlayStation fans around the world, Sony finally announced that the reveal event for their upcoming console, the PlayStation 5, will be held on June 4, 2020.
Sony contemplating on the decision about delaying the reveal event
However, due to the recent developments in the US pertaining to the death of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer and the riots and protests that have ensued afterward, Sony has reportedly decided to postpone their PlayStation 5 reveal event.
Why is the PS5 controller called DualSense?
According to a report, with many other companies delaying their respective events in light of recent events, Sony has decided to follow suit as well. The move has been primarily made to display solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter cause.
Sony also released a very strong PR statement last night on its official Twitter account. In the statement, the company exhibited full support for the movement that has erupted not only across the U.S but the entire world.

Sony is still assessing the situation in terms of whether the reveal event would be appropriate at this time or not. Most of it boils down to how the situation develops though. If things remain volatile for the next couple of days, there is a very high probability that the PS5 reveal event will get delayed.
Jeff Grubb, who is a renowned video games journalist has also backed this claim on his Twitter account.
Update: Sony has finally confirmed that the PlayStation 5 reveal event is indeed getting delayed. The official PlayStation Twitter account posted the statement stating that now is not the time for celebration and we should stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.

Even though the PlayStation 5 reveal event delay would certainly disappoint a lot of fans, it would ultimately be the right thing to do. Most other video game companies have already postponed their plans for the E3 season amidst the turbulent situation. It would be bizarre if Sony decided to go ahead with their own plans.
Furthermore, the company has already taken a strong stance in response to the situation. Hence, doing this would be very much in line with what they have stood for so far.
