The automobile giant Porsche has stepped into the game of electric cars and is developing their ‘Porsche Mission E’ which is a first generation fully electric powered Sedan. This concept car was first unveiled two years ago at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Mission E is reaching its final stage of development and is planned to hit the market by the end of 2019. This futuristic Sedan will be competing against the new Tesla Model S considering its price point. It is expected to fill up the gap between the Porsche’s Panamera and the 911.
The company has planned that it will sell different variants of this electric powered automobile with different power outputs.
According to the chairman of the company Oliver Blume, this car will have the functionality of over the air updates means that the software of the vehicle can be updated wirelessly.
The company has decided not to unveil any high features of the car except for a few of them. The first Mission E concept that was showcased had a range of more than 250 miles on a single charge and some other Hi-Tech features.
The Mission E is a dual motor car, with one motor at the front axle and one at the back. It has latest and advanced lithium ion battery technology. The battery is placed close to the ground for a ground-hugging center of gravity and is extended to the entire length of the car so that the weight is evenly distributed.
This car has incredible rapid charging technology and is claimed to get 80% charged in just 15 minutes. It will also have inductive charging technology which will allow you to charge the car in a unique way by simply driving over a charging base charging base plate in a garage and automatically the battery begins to recharge.
This can also be charged using the old conventional way by plugging the cable, the charging ports are hidden very well at the side of the front fender. With the 360 kW fast charging battery you will be able to travel for 250 miles (400 km) on 80% charge while on a full charge you can easily travel for 300 miles (500 km).
The Mission E has 600 horsepower and can hit a top speed of 150 miles per hour. It can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. However, the Tesla Model S P100D in its Ludacris mode can go 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds.
The design will be pretty similar to the concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It will feature four seats and four doors that open in an entirely unique way. Instead of external side mirrors the company has used cameras that will capture around the surrounding and will display it on the lower end corner of the windshield.
The driver can choose augmented safety information displayed on the windshield and can also control the menu using an inbuilt eye tracker that will detect where the driver is looking and can detect the instrument that the driver wants to be opened, then the driver can confirm the selection by pressing the button on the steering wheel.
This can also sense if the driver shifts the position like moving higher or lower on their seat, so it will change the position of instruments displayed according to the position of the driver.
The Mission E will have a starting price of $80,000 for the entry-level edition.
