OnePlus just launched their new flagship for the last quarter of 2018, in an event at New York the CEO of the company unveiled their latest and greatest smartphone called the OnePlus 6T. It is going to be the first smartphone created by OnePlus to be distributed by a carrier in the United States.

OnePlus had a deal with T-mobile, and as a result, there are many offers for the buyers who want to buy their new phone from T-Mobile. More on this in our detailed review. For the purposes of this article, we’ll focus on how the new device is different from its immediate predecessor.

In display fingerprint scanner

OnePlus is going to be the major smartphone manufacturer that is going with the in-display fingerprint scanner, rather than the face unlock system that Apple and Huawei are promoting. The main benefit of this is the notch on the displays can be made a lot smaller, and thus it can increase the ergonomics of the device.

The fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 6 was at a convenient position at the back of the phone just underneath the cameras. It is now shifted to the front with an optical sensor that can read you finger impressions. The only downside of the technology is that it is not as fast as the original sensor. The one present on the OnePlus 6T is definitely faster but its still slower than the one present on its predecessor.

The teardrop notch

The backlash that almost all flagship of the year had to face was because of the huge loss of display at the top of the phone so that the sensors like the front facing camera, or any face tracking hardware which is referred to as a notch. There are many uses of the Notch, but there are a lot of consumers who just cannot handle the notch.

The OnePlus 6 launched earlier this year had a big if not huge notch (like Pixel 3 XL). You can also hide the notch through the software black bars. This time OnePlus is ditching the “standard” notch i9n favor of a “teardrop” notch which is a lot smaller in size and only houses the front camera. It adds to the beauty of the display, but it is not as beautiful as the all screen smartphone such as the Mi Mix 3.

Thus, the screen size is slightly bigger that is 6.41 inches and using the same AMOLED technology with 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

No Headphone Jack

Yes, OnePlus is also following the trend and they have removed the headphone Jack from the bottom of the smartphone, in favor of an additional speaker grill. It was actually a shock to see such a bold step from OnePlus since the company can be seen to mock many bother companies that opted to remove the headphone jack. Although unlike the bigger smartphone manufacturers (Apple) they are putting a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle inside the box.

The battery management in OnePlus devices has always been great due to the Oxygen OS that is optimized on so many levels that even the OnePlus 3/3T is getting the pie update. DUe to the optimizations, the battery timings of any OnePlus device is great. The battery cell present in the OnePlus 3 was 3300mAH, it is now increased to 3700mAH so that the users will get the same experience with a lot longer screen on time.

US carriers

As mentioned above OnePlus 6T is going to be the first smartphone from OnePlus to be shipped officially through carriers in the US and some European countries will also follow the suit. T-Mobile has the smartphones in their stores since yesterday, and they are also offering a $300 discount to the people who previously own any OnePlus device. They would have to return the device and get the $300 discount on their new smartphone.
