Fortnite is finally out on Android phones after having huge success on other platforms like iOS and PC. However, it’s not as simple as downloading the game from Google Play on Android it seems, which is why many people might get confused as to how to access the game.

Fortnite is arguably the most popular game in recent memory, making headlines often as well as making tons of money. Just the iOS version of the game is said to make a lot of money per day. The game started rolling out on Android exclusive to Samsung devices only. To install the game on your Galaxy device, click here. If you’re a non-Samsung user, then don’t worry, the Samsung exclusivity time is up and now the game’s making its way to all Android phones.

Why can’t I download it from Google Play?

The main reason why Epic Games decided not to make the game available on Google Play was the fact that Google requires a 30 percent fee for all apps and games on Google Play. According to Epic Games, the 70 percent they do get from the game must cover all the costs of the game such as development, maintenance and supporting the game. They also believe that the 30 percent Google keeps is “disproportionate to the cost of the services these stores perform”.

How do I download Fortnite on my phone then?

In order to download the game on your Android device, you will need to download the installer from Epic Games‘ official website. The installer will be responsible for downloading and installing the game on your device. However, unlike how you’re able to uninstall the installer once you’re done downloading Fortnite on PC, this is not an option on Android. You’ll still need the installer even after you’ve installed the game.

According to Epic Games, the installer will be used for installing new updates and patches. It makes sense because this usually could’ve been done through the Google Play store but since Epic is not using that, it needs an alternative way which would be this. The installer shouldn’t take up that much of your memory and Epic will likely be able to tweak this further down the line but you’ll have to deal with it for now.

How is the gameplay?

The gameplay is what you would expect from a mobile game. It’s pretty similar to that on the iOS version of the game. You’ll have all the features available of the game that are available on other platforms and will be able to cross-play with all other platforms. Perhaps Epic Games can make the game perform better on high-end or “gaming phones” in the future.
