Samsung Galaxy S9 got unveiled this Mobile World Congress to much public delight. Along with S9, the Galaxy S9+ was also revealed, and both these phones have since been a part of such discussions, and the focus is mainly set on their cameras.
The phones which were showcased at the MWC in Barcelona, appear extremely similar to their predecessors; S8 and S8+. Though which are different and worth noticing are the all-new camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor powering the phone. The hype on the camera is so much that they are calling it the “The Camera Re-imagined”. Therefore, if the camera was the only thing stopping you from switching over from Apple to Samsung, then it is time to jump ship.
Dual Rear Cameras (Available on Galaxy S9+)
The first one on the list would be dual back shooters, but sadly they are available in the Galaxy S9+ only. Though, whoever is going to buy the model is in for a special treat. Since there would be an additional telephoto sensor. Not only this but courtesy an additional lens, wide-angle shots can easily be taken since the lens has an aperture of f2.4. Therefore, if you were a fan of portrait mode bokeh effects like that on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, then this is your photo to go for.
With its 12 MegaPixel sensor, there shall also be wide-angle shooting too, meaning more people can be under the same picture. Not only this, but both the phones would be equipped with a front-facing 8 MP Camera as well. This means you don’t need to spend extra for the S9+’s dual rear cameras if selfies are your only thing.
Slow-Mo just got further Slow-Mo:
We all like to record videos in Slow-Mo just for fun’s sake sometimes, for instance, at a friend’s egging. On the S9s, Slow-Mo is rebadged as Super Slow-Mo Mode, which is even Slow-Mo-er than a regular Slow-Mo. This is courtesy shots taken at 960 frames per second in just a time span of 6 second short clips. Speaking technically, real-time videos are captured every 0.2 seconds, which are then further slowed down to a six-second burst which we are all rather familiar with at 960 frames per second.
If you want to have a look at the Super Slow-Mo in action then Samsung has recorded a video itself of a dog shaking off the water.
Multi-Frame Noise Reduction
Multi-Shot and frame noise reduction now shall be supported by both the Samsung Galaxy S9 as well as Galaxy S9+. Basically what will be happening is that, instead of just a single photo, your own S9 or S9+ would be capturing 12 images, only that you wouldn’t know that is happening. Then, it will combine all the 12 photos into a single crisp image by 3 groups of four photos. This would lead to much better photo clarity than before and also would lead to a level of noise reduction.
Now, we will have to wait and see if the device does actually live up to this feature’s name, though photos showed by Samsung at WWC taken through this feature, are surely incredible.
12 MP Rear Shooter with Dual Pixel and Dual Aperture Optics
According to Samsung, the new sensor is dubbed as the “SuperSpeed Dual Pixel”. The phone’s Auto Focus is excellent accounting for high performance. It is specially designed for taking photos in motion too. The dual aperture lens is incredibly good with an f1.5 and f2.4 aperture as well. Not only this, but there is optical image stabilization as well.
According to Samsung, “Similar to the way the iris of a human eye expands and contracts, Samsung’s Dual Aperture (F1.5 – F2.4) automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, taking photos that are crisp and clear anytime, anywhere.”
With this said, clearly the all new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ feature impressive and excellent cameras. The choice is up to you now, if you use the camera much often, then maybe it is indeed time to upgrade.
