The Modern smartphones are an incredible piece of technology and have become an essential part of our life. These devices possess smarter capabilities than ever before with powerful camera lenses, large touch displays, high speed connectivity, artificial intelligence and tons of application available that aid productivity etc – much like mini computers small enough to fit in our palm.

Smartphones are getting much more smarter, productive and futuristic with time. From wireless charging to augmented reality, these devices are continuously changing. Let’s dive into the future and see what we can expect from these smart devices in the upcoming  years:

• Wireless Charging:

The first feature on the list is wireless charging as it is trending these days in smartphones, but here we are not going to talk about traditional wireless charging where you put your phone over the cradle or pad to transmit the current.

Here we are going to talk about far field wireless charging that will charge the phone without making any physical contact, through some kind of waves.

The far field wireless charging exists but is in its early stages of development, it just acts as a router through which your device will connect and it will transmit charge through rays (mostly infrared rays).

If this technology becomes available this will allow the batteries to be much smaller and leaner as it would not have to store so much power. Unlimited power would be continuously sent over the air and you will be able to charge your phone without even knowing it from where ever you want.

• Flexible Screens:

Many smartphone manufacturers are working on the concept of flexible phone displays. It is possible to fold and unfold a display thanks to Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) Technology.

Samsung, LG and Nokia have been trying out to build a flexible display smartphone but the challenge is about where to place other internals of the phone as they can not be placed beneath the display.

Nokia is currently working on a concept device which they call ‘Morph’, this device will be a flexible futuristic handset which provides the user option of wearing it as a wrist watch or unfold it to use is a typical smartphone when needed.

Different companies have come up with different prototypes but currently none of these devices can be practically used as our daily driver.

However, it may be soon when flexible screen phones will be every where and our traditional phones will become a thing of past.

• Holographic Display:

Next big feature that we think will definitely be a key feature in the future of Smartphones is 3D and Holographic Displays. The companies have already built smartphones with such high resolution screens that even human eye can not perceive and bow the manufacturers are switching from 2D display feature to 3D Display feature.

At present we have 3D phones like Amazon Fire Phone and LG Optimus 3D etc but they are not actually 3D display, these devices just provide more immersive experience through different techniques.

The real 3D Display would be a holographic one. The Red Company which is famous for making high quality filmmaking gears is building a smartphone which will be out soon and the company says that it will have true holographic Display.

These Displays in future can also possibly integrate with the elements of movements when it comes to user Interaction like you can resize your photo by just pulling that is being projected in the air or you can grab and move projected objects from one place to another much like a sci-fi movie.

• Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial Intelligence has already arrived in smartphones and is receiving much attention. Research has been conducted for the advancement of how artificial intelligence will interact and work with human brains.

The evolution of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will completely change the way we interact with smartphones.

The smartphones will start learning from our environment and will get smarter with time it will be capable of direct brain machine interfaces. It will know about whom you are going to call next or what do you wanna say in a text. Your Smartphone will provide you with contents and other information based on what you are thinking at the moment as it will learn more and more about you with time.

Smartphones are progressing at a rapid pace and i can bet with in the next decade, if you were to go in your basement or garage or somewhere else and find an old device with power ports, 2D Display and that needed a cord plugged in for charging you will laugh out loud with delight that there was a time when these devices existed and were a popular thing.
