Fortnite is now almost two years old but it is still consistently one of the most played games every single day. We’re almost at the end of Season 8 of Battle Pass now and the Week 8 of challenges is in full swing. The game also continues to receive exciting new content every single week that adds fresh new content and game modes to keep the player base hooked on the game. This week has been a particularly good one with the introduction of Air Royale, a plane fighting mode. Air Royale has given us a whole new perspective on how Battle Royale is supposed to be played out and has gained some very positive feedback from the community.
However, the content doesn’t stop there. Air Royale and Week 8 challenges haven’t even been out for a week and Epic is already teasing something very special. In a cryptic tweet, the official Fortnite account teased a collaboration with Avengers: Endgame yesterday. This comes after months of speculation about whether Epic Games would continue their trend of having Avengers content in their game. Avengers Endgame is one of the most hyped movies of all time and is the fourth and the final entry in the Avengers series. It is a going-out-in-a-blaze-of-glory farewell to the Marvel cinematic universe and ties together over a decade of story building that all fans have come to love and enjoy.
The Avengers: Endgame update is probably going to be released on the 25th of April, 2019 alongside the release of the movie. The teasers tweeted out by the Fortnite twitter account also show the date to be the same. This coincides with Epic’s past practice of movie content being released alongside the real thing for Fortnite. For example, when Avengers: Infinity War was released, we got the Thanos special event for Fortnite on the same date and this is going to be the case here as well.
What exactly are we getting?
While the tweets were very cryptic and didn’t reveal much, we still have plenty of rumours and speculation about what to expect from the Endgame event for Fortnite. Last year, alongside the Infinity War release, we got the Thanos event in Fortnite. This included players being able to pick up the infinity gauntlet and transforming into Thanos. The game mode then basically pumped up the player with many different abilities like superhuman strength. This, consequently, increased the chances of a Victory Royale. As Thanos, you could punch through walls, jump for miles, and do a ‘hulk smash’ type of move to instill some area of effect damage on the players around you. However, this time around, we might be getting something even bigger and better, according to a few sources. Let’s take a look at what we could potentially get.
The first tweet, for example, shows a Fortnite character holding a Captain America shield. This alludes to the fact that we might be getting a Captain America skin. Other people have also not ruled out a fully fledged ability and weapon set meaning that players might be able to actually use the shield and throw it around to eliminate enemies. There have also been talks of a Save the World mode in which players would have to defend something from Thanos’ army as the Avengers. Moreover, the Captain America suit could also act as special armour for players to soak in some extra hits.
In another tweet, the Fortnite account posted a picture of a Fortnite character Fishstick holding Thor’s Axe, Stormbreaker. This pretty much confirms that the event and content we’re getting this time would be on a much larger scale than last time and won’t be limited to a single character. Players would probably be able to equip Stormbreaker and wreak havoc around the map by channelling the powers of the god of thunder. It would also be pretty cool if we could get some aerial abilities of Thor as well. A fan has also made some amazing concept art for what the final character skins could end up looking like.

While we are still 2 days away from the release of Endgame, we expect the Fortnite account to tweet even more pictures of other weapons and characters from the movie. This will only strengthen the belief that we might actually be getting skins, weapons and abilities for multiple characters. It would be amazing if they manage to pull this off and we get some amazing new abilities. I mean, just imagine flying through the map as Iron Man or destroying everything around you as the Hulk. However, all of that is still up in the air and we can’t wait to find out more details about the event.
