There had been reports regarding the remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and now a leak from Amazon Italy sheds more light on some details regarding what to expect. As one would expect, so far Activision is pretty tight-lipped regarding everything but the Amazon leak has a ton of info regarding the game’s release date and what it will contain.
The Call of Duty fanbase is divided over which COD game they consider the best. The two most frequently mentioned names that pop up are the first two installments of the Modern Warfare series. Although the entire MW trilogy is considered a classic, the first two games are considered as a masterpiece. Not only did both games have a great multiplayer (which is essentially what COD is about at its core) but both games had an excellent story campaign.
The two games’ story campaigns are widely remembered. One of the most iconic missions in any Call of Duty games came with the likes of “All Ghillied up” in Modern Warfare and then there’s the epic betrayal during the final stages of Modern Warfare 2 followed up by an ending that leaves you wondering what’s going to happen next. All of this is a recipe for a game that’s going to stand the test of time and be fondly remembered. It’s also worth noting that after the Modern Warfare series, there have been several other Call of Duty games that have been released as well. In fact, there’s a COD game that’s released every year but they’re never able to reach the same level as the Modern Warfare series was able to reach.
Modern Warfare 2 is getting a remaster
There had been reports that spread online that like its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2 will also get a remaster. This comes as great news for many fans who want to play the game with upgraded graphics and for nostalgic purposes. Leaks on Amazon Italy suggest that the game will launch and that it should sell for a significantly lesser price tag than the previous remaster.
This leaked image from Amazon has a lot of information, even if it’s not in English. First and foremost, we get a confirmation that the remaster is indeed coming on consoles as this listing is for the Xbox One. It’s highly unlikely that only the Xbox will be getting the game as an exclusive given the fact that Activision has a deal with Sony currently. In fact, given Activision’s track record in games like Destiny 2, they just might give PlayStation users exclusive content that Xbox users won’t be able to access.
Another key thing to note is the price and the release date. The Modern Warfare remaster cost $40 when it was finally made available as a standalone copy, however, this one is just for 20 Euros, which roughly translates to $25. That’s a significant price cut from before and it might be due to the fact that the company received a lot of criticism for selling an old game for almost the full price. The following image also confirms that the game, if it comes, will come to the Ps4 as well:
The last thing to note is that it’s being sold in the photo as a standalone copy from the get-go which was not the case with Modern Warfare. However, nothing’s confirmed yet and this information should be taken with a pinch of salt since the release date mentioned is 30th April, which is almost here and there has been no word from Activision regarding the game so far.
The game will NOT have multiplayer
If you were a die-hard Call of Duty fan and were wondering if the return to relevancy for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will provide good competition for the likes of PUBG and Fortnite, well those hopes can now be put to rest. According to a leak, the remastered version of the game will not have any multiplayer. That explains its low price as well.
If that were to be actually true, it will cause a lot of disappointment and there’s a fear that fans may just wreck the return of one of the best Call of Duty games ever made. Although the single-player campaign of Modern Warfare 2 is legendary, the COD fanbase is purely multiplayer-based at its core. Therefore, to remove the thing most people buy the game for is shooting yourself in the foot.
Moreover, it’ll become really hard for Activision to market the game with Multiplayer because that’s what they usually show in their gameplay reveals. Multiplayer maps are usually the talk of the town and if there’s any additional content to be added to a COD game, it’s usually a multiplayer map. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see what they do if they do take this route.
The Developer behind Call of Duty: MW2
The remastering for the last game wasn’t just a lazy remaster done by the company, it received a full-time upgrade that made it look completely like a modern console game with the latest graphics. The task of remastering the last game was taken up by a company know as Raven Software.
Raven did a fantastic job in making everything in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered look crisp and detailed, like a game with modern up-to-date graphics. It certainly wasn’t expected by many and it came as a nice surprise when the first few images of the game were released. If the leaks turn out to be true, then fans are in for a treat as it seems Raven will again be put to the task of remastering yet another COD game i.e. Modern Warfare 2.
If you haven’t played the remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, then here is an image showing just how good of a job Raven did into making this game look beautiful.
Even if Raven doesn’t get tasked with remastering Modern Warfare 2, they’ve set a high benchmark in the previous one. Therefore, expectations will be high for this one, whoever gets the task of remastering the game should be up for it since Raven has set the bar really high.
What to expect
Although the leaks have suggested that the game will be made available from 30th April and that it’ll be available as a standalone version at a cheap price, it seems too good to be true. April 30 is just around the corner, and one would think that Activision would hype up the revival of one of their best games well before its release date. However, nothing of that sort has been done as of yet, therefore it’s highly likely that the game indeed won’t be released on April 30th.
However, there is strong fan support to convince Activision on working on a remaster as fans have made their desires pretty vocal. Exclusion of multiplayer is a terrible idea and if it’s indeed true, Activision should really reconsider. The price is not confirmed, as $25 seems too good to be true, especially given the fact the previous game was for $40 upon its standalone release.
However, its highly likely Activision will come up with a bundle again to make players buy whatever their new upcoming game will be at the time of release. They tried that with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. They might do this with their latest upcoming game, Black Ops 4. Nothing is certain yet, the final decision is up to Activision, however, if the leaks are true, then fans are in for a treat.
