The OnePlus 5T broke records in sales and has made OnePlus a top competitor in the smartphone market. Although many fans are unhappy that OnePlus seems to have taken the ‘iPhone’ route by releasing the OnePlus 5 and then the OnePlus 5T a few months later, that’s to be expected if OnePlus wants to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung who bring out two major flagships per year.
With the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S9 coming ever so closer, it seems OnePlus are also preparing to make their next big move as rumors have begun circulating about their next flagship: the OnePlus 6. Rumored to be launching as close as March 2018, it’s said to have improved design and hardware.
The most frequently circulated rumor so far has been that the OnePlus 6 will have the face unlock like the iPhone X. According to the rumors, it’ll be the same as the one in the iPhone or will feature a similar system to that of the iPhone.
The similarities with Apple don’t stop there it seems as it’s also expected to have a front facing camera setup like the setup Apple uses in the iPhone X which features a 3D camera and infrared light to measure Depth and plot facial features.
However, it doesn’t seem likely that the OnePlus 6 will have the “notch” like the iPhone X and they will probably add their own twist to these specifications rather than just blatantly copying them from Apple.
The OnePlus 6 will also likely have an edge to edge screen as rumors suggest will also have a fuller top-level bezel to accommodate the new sensors discussed above. As for the camera, it seems that they will likely stick with the dual camera lens given its success in previous models.
There have been rumors in the past as well about OnePlus increasing their phone screen resolutions to 2K and with competitors now advancing towards 2K screen resolution, it seems highly likely that they too will make the shift. It’s a great choice especially as we increasingly move towards the generation of VR every day.
However, it remains to be seen what happens because the 2K screen does take more of a toll on the battery and is more expensive, perhaps they’ll introduce two versions of the phone that appeases all members of their fanbase.
Although many phones are opting to leave the headphone jack behind, OnePlus might not follow that trend. Carl Pei once put a poll on Twitter asking fans about the headphone jack to which he received an overwhelming response in favor of keeping the headphone jack so it’s highly unlikely they’d do something to disappoint their supporters.
Reports also suggest that the OnePlus 6 will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, the latest Snapdragon processor. Rumors also suggest that the phone will also have a much sought after in-screen fingerprint sensor which would be a gamechanger indeed.
So far, there has been no phone which has accomplished this, OnePlus would surely gain an edge over its competitors if it manages to incorporate the fingerprint sensor into the screen.
The company’s pricing has seen an upwards trend which is to be expected with gains in popularity and the type of phones it releases. It is expected that the OnePlus 6 will cost more than the OnePlus 5T, but it may not cost that much more as one of the main things that makes OnePlus phones stand out in the market is their affordable price compared to other flagship phones of similar quality.
Nothing can be said for sure currently as these are all rumors, but the OnePlus 6 is shaping up to be a great phone. It’s rumored to be announced in March and released into the market by the end of the month. Only time will tell what OnePlus has to offer, expectations are high now after the success of their recent phones.
