NVIDIA made some pretty huge claims last week in their Ampere cards launch event. RTX 3080 offers an astonishingly good amount of performance for its price. However, these claims were only based on the word of NVIDIA’s marketing team. The only way to be sure about performance benchmarks it to wait for the actual product release. Once the physical products reach reviewers and consumers we will most likely see some different results.
However, benchmarks for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 have leaked online. According to them, the RTX 3080 is about 30% faster than the RTX 2080Ti. A Chinese tech media outlet TecLab compiled these results after testing an RTX3080. They posted a video showcasing several benchmarks and game performance tests for the card. Although, the video is removed now the benchmarks were captured by Videocardz.
Currently, the RTX 3080 cards are only available to the press after signing strict NDAs. The leakers claim to own a sample and a working driver for the RTX 3080. In addition, they also claimed that their benchmarks suggest that the RTX 3080 on average is 30% faster than the RTX 2080ti & 50% faster than the RTX 2080 Super. The RTX3080 is the flagship card of this generation so this amount of performance is about what consumers expect from it.
The leaked video showed RTX 3080 benchmarked in a lot of applications such as AAA game titles as well as Synthetic load benchmarks like 3D Mark. Techlab shows that these benchmarks were done using GeForce 456.16 drivers. This version is not public yet so it must be a beta version for card testing right now. To avoid any bottlenecks the test setup had an Intel Core i9-10900K and 32 GB of DDR4 memory (4133 MHz at CL17 timing).
The Benchmarks:
Now coming to the leaked test results the NVIDIA RTX 3080 performs way above the previous generation. Statistically speaking we can see about 25 percent faster performance than the RTX 2080 Ti and 45% faster than the RTX 2080 SUPER in the Performance and Extreme tests. Going to 4k the DLSS dedicated hardware in the newer card kick in and we see even better performance numbers of up to 36% in the Ultra 4K preset.
For other benchmarks, the results follow similar trends we observe that in every application RTX 3080 outperforms the RTX2080Ti. The performance margin varies from application to application. Generally, it lies in the range of 24 % to 45% and 43% to 64% for the RTX 2080 Super.
Now coming to the main battleground of these cards. For the Gaming Performance tests, the Chinese leaker tested the Card on a wide range of AAA titles. These include Far Cry 5, Borderlands 3, Forza Horizon 4, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Shadow of The Tomb Raider, Control, and Death Stranding. On average we see that in these games, the RTX 3080 performs more than 60% better than the RTX 2080 Super.
These results are with DLSS turned off for titles that support DLSS RTX 3080 smashes all the boundaries and gives a performance results of up to 70-80% better. These are very impressive considering it is only a generation jump and the cards aren’t even that different spec-wise.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 is launching to consumers on the 17th of September, 2020. The reference Founders Edition variant will cost $699 US. In addition to the Founders Edition cards, a lot of this part manufacturers are also working on their designs. let’s see what they bring with their upgraded hardware and better cooling solutions. Imagine what this card will do with a liquid cooler, the performance capabilities are unlimited.
