Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the most popular multiplayer Battle Royale games out right now. Added as a free-to-play mode to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare last month, Warzone has been consistently topping the charts with no signs of slowing down any time soon thanks to the game’s robust gunplay mechanics and some innovative new Battle Royale features. However, due to the game’s incredible success and player count, cheating within Warzone has been on the rise as well.
Warzone allows Crossplay between PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 much like Modern Warfare and while this has allowed a lot more players to jump into the game with their friends, it has also resulted in some unwanted side effects. One of the biggest problems that most multiplayer shooters face on PC is the constant onslaught of cheaters and hackers ruining the experience for everyone else, and Warzone is no different.
Although it is true that most games have anti-cheat measures in place, it seems like the cheaters are always one step ahead of the curve and manage to bypass those security checks with ease. However, the problem escalates when a game is free-to-play like Warzone as the player count is considerably higher than most other games.
How to fix low FPS, lag and other performance issues in Warzone
In fact, the cheating problem within Call of Duty: Warzone has been so bad lately that some players have just straight up stopped playing the game just because of how bad the entire experience is. In addition to that, the players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are also turning off Crossplay just because of the constant flood of cheaters playing on PC. However, that does mean that they can’t play with their friends anymore which is a bummer.
So, over the past few weeks, the Call of Duty: Warzone community has been rallying up and raising their voices against the cheaters within the game. The entire social media is filled with fans demanding better anti-cheat measures within the game. Thankfully, all of their demands have not fallen on deaf ears as Infinity Ward has just announced new anti-cheat measures to curb the plague of the cheaters within Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone gets new report system and matchmaking to battle the cheaters
Infinity Ward tweeted out its plan to tackle the cheaters ruining Call of Duty: Warzone today with some much-needed improvements to the reporting and matchmaking systems. Firstly, players will now be able to track the status of their reports meaning that if you report someone that you suspect is involved in cheating, you’ll get notified if an action has been taken against the player.
In addition to that, Infinity Ward has also deployed additional security measures via game updates. These updates aren’t only a one time thing and will continue in the future as well. Furthermore, Infinity Ward has also reinforced its backend tech, studio and enforcement teams for efficient delivery and implementation of the new system.
However, the biggest change does not actually lie within the reporting system. Instead, Infinity Ward has announced a fascinating major change to matchmaking that could potentially make or break the entire thing.
Best weapons and loadouts in Call of Duty: Warzone
Starting today, Call of Duty: Warzone players that have been reported and are suspected of cheating will actually be matched against each other. So, essentially, we could be getting a cheater battle royale arena match (which should honestly have a spectator mode because it would be fascinating to watch).
On the flipside though, genuinely good players who get reported by players regularly might actually bear the brunt of this change since they could be the ones who get dropped into a match with cheaters. We’ll just have to wait and see how robust Infinity Ward’s new system is against cheaters.
Other than these measures that have been implemented already, Infinity Ward has also promised other features in the upcoming updates like the ability to report players from within kill cams and spectator modes.
Cheating in multiplayer games has been on the rise for a while now and developers just cannot seem to figure out how to stop it. This has called for more innovative approaches against cheaters. For instance, the new first person shooter from Riot Games, Valorant, runs its anti-cheat protection during system boot, with deep access to the kernel.
While this does have some very serious user security implications, it has been quite successful with curbing cheaters as well. Infinity Ward’s approach to stopping the cheaters is definitely more entertaining and innovative though but it also adds some ambiguity to the matchmaking system at the same time. Only time will tell how well the new anti-cheat measure work in Call of Duty: Warzone.
Do you think that the new measures introduced by Infinity Ward to Call of Duty: Warzone are enough to curb the cheaters or should they be even more strict with the whole thing? Let us know down in the comments below!
