Remote Play on the PS4 has been an absolute godsend feature. The feature has proven to be extremely popular among most PlayStation users. However, Remote Play has not really fulfilled its potential yet as it has only been available on Apple devices and Sony Xperia devices. This meant that most of the Android population was left without Remote Play. However, that is not the case anymore.
Thanks to the recent PlayStation 4 firmware update 7.00, people with Android devices other than Xperia can now use remote play as well. What this means is that you can stream your PS4 games directly to an Android device. This is such a convenient feature as you don’t have to sit in one place in front of your TV to enjoy your games anymore.
Thankfully, the setup process is very streamlined and simple as well. So, you won’t have to troubleshoot for ages to make remote play work on your PS4 either. Here’s how to do it:
Setting up your PS4
Before you go on and set up your Android device, you need to make sure that your PS4 is allowing remote play. For that, you need to at least be on Version 7.00. If you’re not, update your PS4. After making sure that your console is fully updated, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings on your console.
- Select the Remote Play Connection Settings option.
- Check the Enable Remote Play box in the settings.
While remote play is fully activated now on your PS4, there are still one more thing that you need to do. In order for your remote play experience to be smooth and seamless, you need to be able to turn your PS4 on from the remote play device so that you don’t have to get up and turn on your console every time you wish to play. This is a very simple procedure as well. Just follow these steps:
- Go to Settings menu on your console.
- Select the Power Save Settings option.
- Navigate further down into the Set Features Available in Rest Mode menu.
- Turn on the Stay Connected to the Internet option. In addition to that, also make sure that Enable Turning on PS4 from Network option is turned on.
Voila! Your PS4 console is now all set for Remote Play on all devices including Android, PC, iOS and Mac. All you need to do now is set up your remote play device.
How to set up PS4 Remote Play on iOS devices?
Installing PS4 Remote Play on Android Device
After setting up your PlayStation 4, you need to head over to your Android device and set that up. However, you need to make sure that the device you’re trying to run Remote Play on is running Android 5 or above. Furthermore, a 5 GHz router is recommended for a smooth remote play experience. Apart from that, the process of setting up the device is very simple. Just follow these steps:
- Go to the Google Play Store and Search for PS4 Remote Play or just follow this link. Alternatively, you could also go to the PlayStation Remote Play website and click on the get on Google Play option.
If the PS4 Remote Play app isn’t available in your region, you might have to download the APK file here for it directly and sideload it.
- After installing the app, launch it. The app will then search for an existing PS4 console on your home network. Your console needs to be turned on or in Rest Mode for it to work.
- Once the console has been located by the app, follow the on-screen instructions to pair your device with the PS4.
In addition to linking your device to the PlayStation 4 for Remote Play, you can also pair a DualShock 4 wireless controller with your Android device. However, your device needs to be running Android 10 for that to work.
You can now play PS4 games on your Android device without having to sit around in one place. This is such a quality of life improvement feature and honestly, it is kind of baffling why Sony took so long to bring it to Android devices.
