This week has been so busy with Apple and iPhone stuff that some of us almost forgot about the upcoming Pixel devices. So let’s catch up on a little bit of what Google has been up to.
The company confirmed that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will officially be unveiled at the Google’s event in New York on 9th October. There are still 20 days left at the event and we have already seen a fully leaked unboxing video of the Google Pixel 3 XL. Lots of other leaked images and rumors are also surrounding the internet like somebody accidentally left a Pixel 3 XL in an elevator. It would not be wrong to say that this year’s Pixel devices have probably been the most leaked device of the decade.
Let’s take a look at all the interesting leaks and rumors of the upcoming Google smartphones to get a better idea of what to expect.
• The Notch:
Firstly, let’s start with the fact that this year the XL variant of the smartphone is going to have the notch and it is most likely the largest notch in the history. It literally covers like half of the screen, okay, I know I’m exaggerating but I don’t support the idea of having a cutout on the display of a phone.
Not only this the smartphone is also going to have a big chin which is not what we want in a 2018 smartphone. But we must not be completely disappointed about this as there are reasons behind the notch and the big chin. Firstly we will get front-firing stereo speakers which are really great. Secondly, the notch also houses two front-facing cameras which we will talk about more in a while.

Also, if you’re someone like me and can’t withstand a notch then don’t worry as the Pixel 3 is going to have a top bezel giving it more of a symmetrical look.
• Design:
According to all the leaked images and particularly the unboxing video which shows the smartphone in full details, it looks pretty much like the last year’s flagship from the back although this time the phones do seem to have a full glass back compared to the glass and metal combination that we used to have. Some other subtle changes also have been made like at the back.
• Wireless Charging:
There have also been numerous rumors that both the smartphones will most likely feature wireless charging thanks to the glass back something which previous Pixel devices have always lacked. Also, the battery size has been confirmed, the Pixel 3 XL will sport a 3430 mAh battery which might seem less for a 6.7 inch display with Quad HD+ resolution smartphone. The Pixel 3, cause of the smaller size is going to have a smaller battery of 2915 mAh. The rest of the features on both the phones will most likely be the same.
• Rumored Specs:
The devices are rumored to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 processor paired up with Adreno 630 GPU and 4 Gigabytes of RAM. There will be 64 and 128 GB internal storage option available to choose from along with 2 years of Google’s unlimited cloud storage.
The phones will most likely have OLED displays 2,960×1,440-pixel resolution. Also, there will be a wired version of Google Pixel Buds that will connect via USB-C port that means there will be no headphone jack.
• Camera:
Now moving on to the camera, we have got not one but two front-facing shooters. It looks like Google is determined to keep the crown of having best front-facing cameras in the market. Last year’s Pixel smartphones had the best dynamic range, picture quality and also a great portrait mode so we can expect even better camera performance this year thanks to dual camera setup.
Based on specs leak both of them are going to have 8.1 megapixel resolution, one is going to be a wide angle and the other one would be a regular one. According to some rumors, one of these cameras will also have a variable aperture petty much like the one on the Samsung Galaxy S9.
Although we have got two cameras on the front it seems like Google is sticking with a single camera for the back. This isn’t a bad thing as last year Google’s single camera setup outperformed every dual camera setup on other phones. Also, it will have the Pixel Visual Core 2nd generation which means even better software processing, machine learning and edge detection. The resolution is going to be the same as last year which is 12.2 megapixels.

• Colors:
An official promo site has been found which reveals the upcoming colors of the smartphones. The site shows the outline of the phone in three colors: black, white, and mint. This one-page website features the outline of the phone, along with the words “Coming Soon” and clicking on the logo switches between the colors of the smartphones.

So these are all the leaks and rumors that we know about the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. I hope you enjoyed our roundup. We will post a full review of these devices as soon as they are available. So stay tuned and connected.
