We’re officially into the Season 9 of Fortnite and there are some pretty significant changes to the whole landscape. The season has a futuristic vibe to it with sci-fi skyscrapers and wind tunnels throughout the map. The wind tunnels, called Slipstreams can be used to traverse the land at very high speeds. The new season, as expected, has also brought a bunch of new challenges and unlockable items with it. The Week 1 of challenges for Season 9 is live now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch and mobile. The progression system is the same as before i.e. finishing challenges will get you some Battle Stars which you can use to level up your Battle Pass and earn rewards.
The format of the challenges also remains the same as the previous seasons. The challenges come in two sets, free and premium. The free challenges are available for everyone while the premium challenges are accessible by only the players who own a premium battle pass. There is also a third challenge every week called Utopia Challenge that unlocks after every other challenge for that week has been completed. This can give you an additional battle star or a banner. The challenges for week 1 seem pretty straightforward and consist of tasks like visiting sky platforms and dealing damage in different ways. Completing any 4 challenges from this week will also get you some bonus XP. So, without further ado, let’s look at the challenges for week 1 and how to complete them.
Season 9 Week 1 Challenge List
Free Challenges
- Stage 1 of 2: Ride the Slip Stream around Neo Tilted. This is worth 2 Battle Stars.
- Visit all 7 Sky Platforms. Completing this will get you 5 Battle Stars.
- Deal 200 damage to an opponent within 10s after using a Shadow Bomb. This is worth 10 Battle Stars.
Premium Challenges
- Pick up 5 Legendary Items in different matches. This will get you 5 Battle Stars.
- Search 7 chests at Lucky Landing or Loot Lake. This is worth 5 Battle Stars.
- 3 Scoped weapon eliminations. This challenge is worth a hefty 10 Battle Stars.
- Stage 1 of 3: Deal 300 damage to opponents from at least 2 stories. This is worth 3 Battle Stars.
Visit Sky Platforms Challenge
Most of the challenges in week 1 are pretty straightforward and don’t require any additional instructions. However, there is one challenge that can make you scratch your head a bit. This is the second challenge in the free category and requires you to visit some Sky Platforms dotted around the map. If you remember the challenges from last season, there was one in which you had to visit some Pirate Camps around the map. Well, this challenge is basically the same as that and the Pirate Camps have just been replaced by Sky Platforms. The Sky Platforms, as the name suggests, are platforms hovering in the sky and are pretty easy to spot from a distance. There are a total of 7 Sky Platforms that you need to visit in order to complete the challenge. Here’s a map marked with locations of all Sky Platforms.
Week 1 Utopia Challenge (Secret Battle Star Location)
Just like the previous Season, Season 9 has a bonus weekly challenge as well. This comes in the form of Utopia Challenge which replaces the Discovery Challenge from Season 8. Anyone who has completed all the previous challenges for the week is eligible for completing the Utopia challenge. This challenge usually involves a player looking at clues to find a hidden secret. The secret can either be a Battle Star which levels up the Battle Pass for rewards or a hidden Banner which can be used as a profile icon. If you finish all 7 challenges from this week, you’ll unlock a special loading screen with hidden clues pointing towards the location of the secret Battle Star.
This week’s loading screen features a character holding a minigun. If you look closely at the minigun, you can see that it has some coordinates written on it. These coordinates are I5, I6, J5 and J6 and this is the location where you need to go. If you trace the coordinates back to the map, these will point you towards a region south of Lonely Lodge where you’ll find the Battle Star. Just go up to the Battle Star and pick it up. After the match is finished, your Battle Pass will then level up. One thing you need to keep in mind is that the Battle Star will not appear unless you have completed all the previous 7 challenges for the week.
