Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been out for a while now. We’ve all settled into a steady rhythm with the game after the initial launch excitement. The game has had its fair share of bugs and issues but now those are being slowly ironed out as well. This is the optimal time to sit down, rethink strategy and experiment with new loadouts and weapons.
Modern Warfare, unlike the previous few Call of Duty games has gone back to the roots of what made the franchise so great in the first place. There are no jetpacks, no futuristic weapons and no gimmicks this time around. All there is to this game is robust and versatile gameplay.
Call of Duty has also expanded its horizons in terms of gameplay. The game is no longer a run and shoot simulator. Players can actually choose to switch to a slower playing style with a much more cautious approach. The addition of bigger maps and new game modes has also helped with diversifying playing styles. This is arguably the most complete Call of Duty game we’ve seen for a very, very long time.

Best Loadouts for different playing styles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare enables a ton of different playing styles for all types of players. Most of these are fairly balanced and can result in success depending on your skill level.
From the classic Call of Duty Run and Gun to camping out with a sniper rifle, the game has a wide variety of weapons and customization options to fit your needs. Here are some of the best loadouts for every different playing style in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
1. Run and Gun Loadout
Run and Gun is the classic Call of Duty playing style. In the past, this has been the go-to playing style because of the sheer speed at which you can amass kills for your kill streaks. In addition to that, this also prevents anyone from sneaking up on you from behind as you’re always on the move.
However, things are a little different in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Run and Gun playing style is not as overpowered as it has been in the past games largely due to a slower paced gameplay. However, the playing style can still bring instant success if you pick the right set of guns and attachments.
For Run and Gun, you can choose from two types of weapons, Shotguns and SMGs, and see which one suits you the best. The most popular one, however, has been the 725 Shotgun so far. Here’s what the loadout looks like for both guns:
725 Shotgun loadout for Run and Gun
The 725 Shotgun is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. It is extremely overpowered when used in the correct manner and can boost you up to the top of the scoreboard. It seems like Infinity Ward doesn’t have any plans of nerfing the gun either as it is still very powerful after the recent patches.
Here are the most effective attachments for the 725:
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Stock: Sawed off Stock
- Grip: Steady Grip FORGE TAC
- Perk: Sleight of Hand
- Barrel: Tempus 32″ Competition
MP5 SMG loadout for Run and Gun
If you’re more of a traditional run and gun player, the MP5 will suit you the best. The gun has an incredibly wide range of attachments to choose from that can really enhance the overall damage, range and accuracy of the gun. However, it is still an SMG at the end of the day so don’t expect to snipe anyone with it.
Here are all the attachments you need for it:
- Ammo: 10mm
- Rear grip: Granulated Grip Tape
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Perk: Sleight of Hand
- Barrel: Merc Foregrip
Best Perks for the Run and Gun class in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
For run and gun, the perks you choose will be crucial to the outcome of most of your gunfights. Usually, you should focus on a balanced set of perks that can boost your damage while still keeping you safe from looming threats. Here are the recommended perks for the Run and Gun class in Modern Warfare:
- Quick Fix: This will increase your health regeneration rate when you get kills or amass points. Quick Fix is especially good for aggressive playing styles because it allows you to take small dozes of damage over and over again while still keeping your momentum intact.
- Ghost: This will keep enemies off your heel. Ghost hides you from UAVs, Radar drones and heartbeat sensors so you cannot be traced down while you run through the map wreaking havoc.
- Shrapnel: This will really improve your chances of confirming the kill. Shrapnel delays enemy regeneration after an explosive hit and also gives you an extra lethal. So, once the enemy gets hit with one, you can swoop in and finish the job easily.
2. All-rounder Loadout
If you’re not sure about whether you want to stick to running around or camping in a spot waiting to ambush someone, you can try out the all-rounder loadout. This involves using two primary weapons, for both short range and longer range gunfights.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a plethora of weapons to choose from and there is no set rule for a weapon combination being the best. All you need to focus on is that you have the appropriate weapons for most scenarios.
In all-rounder playing style, you need to use the Overkill perk as perk number 1. This will allow you to use two primary weapons. While there are many combinations that you can try, having a Shotgun and a long-ranged assault rifle has been the most popular choice. Here’s what the loadout looks like for all-rounder guns:
M4A1 Assault Rifle loadout for All-rounder
Firstly, you need to have a gun that can be accurate from a distance while also being not too shabby in close quarters. For this purpose, the M4A1 Assault Rifle is one of the most powerful guns in the game. It packs a punch while also being very accurate at longer distances.
However, even if someone does ambush you, the M4A1 can be relied upon in close combat as well with its powerful spray and high damage. Here are the optimal attachments for an M4A1 Assault Rifle:
- Barrel: Corvus Custom
- Stock: Singuard Arms Invader
- Ammo: 60 Round Magazines
- Rear Grip: Stippled Grip Tape
- Optic: Reflex Sight
725 Shotgun Loadout for All-rounder
The 725 Shotgun is extremely powerful not only for Run and Gun but also as an all-rounder. It will be used here in a very similar fashion to Run and Gun though. If you’re not up for a Shotgun, you can also replace this build with the MP5 SMG build from the Run and Gun style above.
Here are the best attachments for the 725 Shotgun in Call of Duty Modern Warfare:
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Stock: Sawed off Stock
- Grip: Steady Grip FORGE TAC
- Perk: Sleight of Hand
- Barrel: Tempus 32″ Competition
If you want to use a single gun, you can stick to the M4A1 for a relatively powerful combination in most situations.
Best Perks for the All-rounder class in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
In terms of perks, what you’re looking for with all-rounder is a balanced set. If you’ve chosen to take up two primary weapons, your first perk slot has already been filled by Overkill. So, you only need to add two more perks here.
What you need is something that will help you with switching two primary weapons faster so you can alternate between them depending on the scenario. In addition to that, you also need to be aware of your surroundings so that you’re ready to switch weapons and adapt to the situation. Here are the perks you should use for an all-rounder build:
- Overkill: This will allow you to carry two primary weapons. Having a short ranged and a long ranged weapon is crucial to the all-rounder class.
- Amped: This perk will allow you to switch your weapons on the fly without the cumbersome animations that come with primary weapons. So, if you get ambushed, you can quickly switch over to your short ranged weapon and have a chance of fighting back.
- High Alert: This is a relatively defensive perk. High Alert basically warns you whenever an enemy is trying to aim at you. So, whenever you feel that an enemy has you in his sights, you can quickly switch your weapon and fight back.

3. Sniper Loadout
In the past few years, snipers weren’t really favored in Call of Duty because of the fast-paced and close quarters nature of the game. However, with Modern Warfare, Snipers are making a comeback. Thanks to the game’s bigger maps and new game modes like Ground War, sniping is once again a viable option for Call of Duty players.
As with other Modern Warfare games, there are two main ways to use sniper rifles. You can either camp around and be a proper sniper or, you could go with the classic Call of Duty quick scope sniper. Both of these playing styles are possible in Modern Warfare with each having their own sets of advantages. However, the gun that you’ll be using for both styles is the same with different loadouts. Here they are:
AX 50 Sniper Loadout for Sniper
AX 50 is a very powerful and versatile sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Thanks to its high damage and impressive base statistics, the AX 50 is one of the deadliest weapons in the game. However, the true potential of this weapon is unleashed when it is customized in certain ways.
For it to be an optimal quickscope sniper, use the following attachments:
- Barrel: 17″ Factory Barrel
- Stock: Singuard Arms Assassin
- Laser: Tac Laser
- Perk: Sleight of Hand
- Grip: Rear Tape grip
You can pair this setup with Quick Fix, Ghost and the Shrapnel perks (same as run and gun) for the best quickscoping experience.
However, if you want to be more like a traditional sniper and camp around, you can use the following attachments on the AX 50 Sniper Rifle:
- Muzzle: Tac Suppressor
- Ammo: 7 Round Magazine
- Perk: Focus
- Optics: Variable Zoom Scope
- Barrel: 32 Inch Barrel
These will help you with camping out at a spot with your sniper rifle.
Perks for the Camping Sniper class in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
If you wish to stay hidden at a location and scout your enemies like a traditional sniper, you’re going to need some setup. For example, you need to find a good sniping spot and make sure that the entrance to it is blocked. You can do that by placing Claymores down at the entrance. In addition to that, you also need to make sure you don’t run out of supplies.
So, for the best camping sniper combination, use the following perks:
- Cold Blooded: This will help you with staying off the radar as it hides your location from targeting systems. With Cold Blooded, you can continue sniping away without others finding out about your hiding spot.
- Restock: This will allow you to resupply yourself with more Claymores in case someone does manage to sneak into your hiding spot. So, with Restock, you can keep your back covered at all times.
- Shrapnel: If, for some reason, an enemy doesn’t die because of your Claymore, Shrapnel will allow you to swoop in and finish the job. It stops the enemy from healing back after taking explosive damage so it is especially useful for snipers who camp a lot.
Despite all of this, a Sniper is not the only way to camp. You can actually use an M4A1 Assault Rifle to find a decent spot and camp as well. While camping is not really a favorable practice in terms of being a good sport and will probably make others hate you, it is still a good way to get some easy kills and keep your K/D ratio up.
