The updated 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is gaining attention for adding a plug-in hybrid model and enhanced off-road driving and towing capabilities rather than its exterior and interior changes. The PHEV is named the GLE 400e 4Matic and has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, similar to the GLE 350. However, the GLE 400e 4Matic also features an electric motor that provides 134 horsepower, resulting in a combined output of 381 horsepower and a massive 479 pound-feet of torque from gas and electric power sources.
The GLE 400e is equipped with a 23.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is a significant capacity for a plug-in hybrid. The vehicle has been designed to prioritize electric driving in urban areas, and the computer will automatically choose the best driving mode. Still, manual overrides are available for off-road driving. Standard features include 11 kW Level 2 AC home charging and an option for 60 kW Level 3 DC fast charging, which is not commonly found in PHEVs.

Additionally, you can save two different trailer types and a bike rack in the preset options. The Trailer Maneuvering Assist has been updated to utilize cameras and provides assistance with steering at low speeds. It also helps navigate your trailer when backing up, and can handle turns of up to 90 degrees. Unfortunately, the company has yet to specify the maximum weight capacity for towing this year. The pricing information has not been announced by the company yet. It is expected to be disclosed before they become available at dealerships.
