The 2023 BMW X7’s Odd New Appearance Hides its Inner Charm

The BMW X7 for 2023 is an attractive luxury sports utility vehicle that features advanced active safety systems and brand-new mild hybrid engines. However, styling may be a barrier for some customers. As a result, it has undergone a redesign that aligns it with the 7-series sedan, including changes to its front and rear end that have elicited mixed opinions. Despite this, the brand continues to perform well in sales. In addition to the updated look, the X7 has improved engines, a renovated interior, and added standard and available features.

The previous design of the BMW X7 closely resembled a larger version of the X5. However, the new front end has a more distinct appearance, with its daytime running lights positioned above the square-shaped headlights and lower on the front panel. BMW acknowledges that they are not the first to use this inverted-headlight design, which has been tried before by other car manufacturers, such as the Jeep Cherokee and the Nissan Juke, but abandoned or discontinued. Despite this, the X5 and X6 are expected to adopt this new look.

BMW predicts that the X7 xDrive40i will be the most popular choice among customers, regardless of design preference. This particular model comes equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that has been paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, generating 380 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. BMW forecasts that the base model of the X7 will achieve a speed of 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, which is considered to be a conservative estimate by some buyers. However, the engine delivers strong and immediate torque paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. It results in a vehicle that is never underpowered or lacking in performance.

All X7 models come equipped with an active air suspension system that excels in preserving stability. The X7, with its large 23-inch wheels, provides a smooth and delightful driving experience, similar to spreading melted butter on toast. This type of smoothness is precisely what one would expect from a top-tier luxury SUV.

The BMW X7 has a new feature called Trailer Assist, which is not unique to BMW but is a common addition in the automotive industry. This feature allows for more control when towing a trailer, using the iDrive knob to direct its movement. Like the technology offered by Ford on the F-150 pickup, Trailer Assist simplifies towing for those without experience.

The iDrive system in the X7 is based on BMW’s eighth-generation software, which is gradually being rolled out across the company’s lineup. The X7 is equipped with BMW’s eighth-generation iDrive system software, which is being gradually introduced across the automaker’s product range. The iDrive 8, though it may be challenging at first, becomes more user-friendly with use. It also offers the option of utilizing BMW’s gesture controls and supports wireless connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2023 BMW X7 provides numerous new color alternatives, including 40 personalizable options in matte and non-metallic finishes. Additionally, there is a sporty M Sport package available, complete with a gloss-black exterior trim, 21-inch wheels, and recognizable trapezoidal exhaust tips. The M60i model is also updated with a new M logo on the grille, a body kit, and 22-inch wheels. Additionally, a new option for 23-inch wheels with summer tires is available for the 2023 model year.

The 2023 BMW X7 boasts an extravagant interior with luxurious materials such as a high-quality, leather-like vegan surface. The front seats are heated, and there is an option for second-row captain seats. In addition, the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, controlled through the gear selector lever, is displayed on a single piece of glass covering a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 14.9-inch infotainment display. As standard equipment, the 2023 BMW X7 comes with a four-zone climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, and the ability to wirelessly charge compatible phones.

The flagship BMW X7 M60i xDrive is equipped with a cutting-edge 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine that originates from BMW M’s high-performance cars. This engine produces 530 horsepower and a maximum torque of 750 Nm using the M TwinPower Turbo technology.
