Fears were growing for the Queen’s health after she missed church services on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. However, the British monarch is now up and about having missed engagements as a result of a heavy cold.

The Queen was spotted making her first pubic appearance in a month and was able to go to church at Sandringham. The 90 year old arrived by car to St Mary Magdalene Church wrapped up in a heavy blue blanket before getting out to attend the church service.

Wearing a royal blue coat and matching hat, she also kept warm with black gloves. Her husband Prince Philip, 95, looked tired as he accompanied the monarch to church. Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with her family, were seen walking to attend the service.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who celebrates her 35th birthday tomorrow, was keeping the chill out with a green Sportmax coat, which she teamed with a furry grey hat. Wellwishers could be seen waiting for the royal family, and managing to exchange a few words with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

While the Queen was still looking poorly, she is clearly feeling much better than she has over the past few weeks. She and Prince Philip had been due to travel to Sandringham by train before Christmas. However, they decided to change their plans at the last minute and went via helicopter instead, with the aircraft landing in the grounds of Buckingham Palace to pick them up.

Senior members of the royal family then celebrated Christmas at Sandringham, before a traditional Boxing Day hunt. The Queen and Prince Philip usually stay at the Norfolk estate until February. The couple have spent much of the festive season indoors together while they both recovered from heavy colds. However the Queen’s spokespeople said she has still been catching up on official paperwork.
