If you are a vampire fan, Redfall is the game for you. Launched a few days ago, Redfall is a first-person shooter video game with a very interesting storyline based on vampires and vampire hunters. You get to be the hero while you hunt and kill vampires and find and save survivors.
Developed by Arkane Austin and published by Bethesda Softworks, Redfall features an open world with both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes, where you can choose from four unique playable characters, each with their own background and abilities. The game takes place in a world overrun by vampires and human enemies, and players must work together to fight against these threats.
However, shortly after it’s launched, the gamers started pouring steam with reviews about the game and it’s performance issues, and oh boy that ain’t looking so good!
Here are a few reviews on Steam that we found quite ruthless, but funny!
One user named Flan said, “I got this game for free and I feel like I want a refund.”
Another user named Wafflebandito said, “I got this game for free with my graphics card, and I still feel ripped off.”
A player felt like writing a poem for the game, “Redfall is an art. An art of everything that goes wrong in game design. Redfall is a sign. A sign of how anti-consumer and un-fun recent games have been. Redfall isn’t worth it. Not even free. Your time is precious and it’s worth more than this… junk.”
Another disappointed player renamed the game for himself, calling it a “Redfail”.
These negative reviews suggest that the game might have been criticized for its performance issues, presentation, story, characters, repetition and gunplay, however the positive reviews suggest that Redfall’s co-op gameplay and worldbuilding is worth the praise and price as well.
System Requirements for Redfall
To know the system requirements for Redfall is important because it tells you whether you computer is capable of running the game smoothly. If a computer does not meet the minimum requirements, the game may run poorly, with low frame rates, stuttering, and other performance issues.
According to the Steam store page for Redfall, the minimum system requirements are:
- 64-bit Windows 10 operating system
- Intel Core i5-8400 @ 2.80GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor
- 16 GB RAM
- AMD RX 580 / NV GTX 1070 / 6 GB VRAM graphics card
- DirectX Version 12
- Broadband Internet connection
- 100 GB available space (SSD recommended)
The recommended system requirements for Redfall are:
- 64-bit Windows 10 operating system
- Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor
- 16 GB RAM
- AMD 5700 / NVIDIA RTX 2080 / Intel ARC / 8 GB VRAM graphics card
- DirectX Version 12
- Broadband Internet connection
- 100 GB available space (SSD recommended)
In general, to run most modern games smoothly, it is recommended to have a computer with at least an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor, a dedicated graphics card like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580, and at least 8GB of RAM, but if a game does not run smoothly even if the computer meets the recommended system requirements, there could be several reasons for this, including driver issues, outdated software, insufficient cooling, or a hardware defect.
There are several steps that can be taken to address performance issues and improve gameplay.
One common solution is to update the graphics card driver to the latest version. This can be done by visiting the website of the graphics card manufacturer and downloading the latest driver for the specific model of the graphics card.
Updating other drivers, such as the motherboard and sound card drivers, can also improve performance.
Another solution is to ensure that all necessary software, including the game itself and any additional software required to run the game, is up-to-date. This can be done by checking for updates through the game launcher or by visiting the developer’s website.
If the computer is overheating, performance can also be affected. Ensuring that the computer is well-ventilated and free of dust can help keep temperatures down.
Installing additional cooling solutions, such as additional fans or liquid cooling systems, can help prevent overheating and improve performance.
There may also be hardware defects that are causing performance issues. If all other solutions have been tried and the game still does not run smoothly, it may be necessary to troubleshoot individual components of the computer, such as the graphics card, CPU, or RAM.
Some other general tips to improve the performance of the games like Redfall:
- Lower Graphics Settings: Reducing the graphics settings in the game can help improve performance. Try turning off unnecessary features such as motion blur, reflections, and shadows.
- Close Background Applications: Running multiple applications in the background while playing Redfall can affect game performance. Close any unnecessary applications and processes to free up system resources.
- Adjust Resolution: Reducing the game’s resolution can improve performance, although this will result in a lower quality image.
- Disable V-Sync: V-Sync is a feature that synchronizes the game’s frame rate with the monitor’s refresh rate. Disabling this feature can help improve performance, but may also result in screen tearing.
- Defragment Hard Drive: Over time, files on your hard drive can become fragmented, causing slower load times in the game. Run a disk defragmenter to optimize your hard drive and improve game performance.
Other than that, there are many resources available online, such as Reddit and gaming forums, where you can find additional tips and solutions to address performance issues in games. We have also gathered a few tips that may help you fix your Redfall performance issues, which includes fixing its FPS, Stutter, Lag etc.
Best Settings for RedFall:
Here are a few things you can try to make Redfall run smoother. However, the game’s graphics settings are a bit broken, so some settings may not work as expected.
First set Motion Blur Scale to Off; this setting can decrease overall performance and cause motion sickness for some players.
Then, set Foliage Quality to Medium (Lowering this setting can help increase performance without a significant impact on visual quality.)
And then use either DLSS Quality (if you have an RTX GPU) or FSR 2.1 Quality (if you have an AMD, Intel, or older Nvidia GPU) for upscaling. This setting can help increase performance while maintaining visual quality. However, this option is only available on compatible graphics cards.
This may not seem like a big change, but it can boost your performance by up to 49%, which is more than using all Low settings. However, there’s no guarantee that this will work for everyone, since some settings seem to have unpredictable effects on performance.
If you have an RTX 40 series GPU that supports DLSS 3, you can also enable frame generation. This can further improve your performance.
You can also experiment with other settings such as you can try adjusting settings like Shadow quality, Shading Quality, and View Distance Quality, to find a balance between performance and visual quality that works best for your system.
Keep in mind that future patches may change the game’s performance, so this guide may not be relevant forever. But for now, these settings tweaks can help you get the most out of Redfall.
Here are a few fixes that tweeps suggested on twitter:
To fix the aiming in Redfall use these settings! They definitely should be the default setting. #Redfall #Xbox pic.twitter.com/awJ8ZWCHX1

Important notice: out of the box, the game feels horrible to play on a controller in my opinion.
Change “Input Response Preset” to low and you’ll instantly have a much better experience + raise controller sensitivity. Here are my settings. pic.twitter.com/6pFXX4OkcS
