Atlus and Perfect World Games have teamed up to create a new mobile spinoff game for the Persona 5 series. The official website has shared many details about the game, including its title, visuals reminiscent of Persona 5, the platform it will be released, and information about key characters and locations.
Those who follow Atlus news regarding the Persona video game series may recall that Perfect World Games had hinted at a partnership with Atlus in 2021 for a mobile game. However, all information about the game was removed shortly after the announcement, leaving fans needing clarification.
Now, after almost two years since the initial announcement, Atlus and Perfect World Games have finally made an official reveal of the new Persona 5 spinoff game for mobile devices. The developers have waited for the right time to announce the previous setback.
The new mobile game, Persona: Phantom of the Night, is the same title hinted at in 2021 under the codename X. It is also referred to as P5X and marks the first mobile game in the Persona series. As expected, the game takes inspiration from Persona 5 regarding its setting, gameplay, and features. This resemblance is particularly noticeable since the game is designed for mobile devices. Moreover, the marketing materials and website of the game feature the same red design elements that are characteristic of Persona 5.
This annoucement also includes information on the game’s main character, supporting characters, and setting and also features a preview of the Velvet Room assistant seen in the Persona series. Moreover, fans can watch several trailers that provide a more comprehensive look at the game’s storyline and gameplay.
The latest update from official sources confirms that Persona: Phantom of the Night will undergo its first beta test on March 29. Unfortunately, it is still being determined whether fans of Persona 5 from around the world can participate in this testing phase, as it is being exclusively tested in China. It currently needs to be determined whether Atlus intends to release the game globally, but many are hoping for a wider release in the future.
In the new Persona 5, players will join a new group of Phantom Thieves investigating the theme of “desire.” The game will also include familiar elements from previous titles, such as attending school and engaging in activities like watching movies and playing baseball during the daytime. Once school is over, players can explore the Metaverse and Palaces with the new Phantom Thieves. The gameplay mechanics follow the same formula as Persona 5, emphasizing character relationships, exploration, and combat.
