The Excavator Power Armor, also called the EXC-17, is a specialized mining suit created by the Garrahan Mining Corporation in Fallout 76. Its primary purpose is to safeguard miners who work in hazardous and contaminated environments from the detrimental effects of radiation exposure.
This prototype is constructed to provide a shield against physical and electrical harm. The Excavator Power Armor boasts impressive statistics, including 400 Radiation resistance, 286 Physical damage reduction, and 260 Electrical damage decrease. This advanced suite guarantees the safety and well-being of miners who operate under challenging conditions.
While the Excavator Power Armor may not be the most powerful option available in Fallout 76, it does have a distinct advantage that sets it apart from other armors: Its unique ability to quadruple the yield of Mineral Ores when used for excavation purposes.
For each Ore mined, while wearing the Excavator, the user receives four instead. It’s important to note that the Excavator Power Armor is a prototype and can only be obtained through crafting, as it is not available as a pre-built version in Appalachia. Nevertheless, alternative means exist to acquire the Excavator Power Armor in the game.

Players must first obtain the armor’s plans from the Garrahan Mining Corporation. They can complete the Miner Miracles quest or access the Project Manager Terminal at the corporation’s headquarters. Once players have acquired the plans, they can use a Power Armor Station to craft the Excavator Power Armor. It’s worth mentioning that players will only be able to obtain the Excavator Power Armor with these plans, as it is not available as a pre-built version in Appalachia.
To initiate the Miner Miracles side quest in Fallout 76, gamers need to read the quest poster posted at the entrance of Garrahan Mining Corporation. Upon accepting the quest, players will be required to search the company’s headquarters, and upon completion, they will be granted the plans for the Excavator Power Armor. The Miner Miracles quest is a relatively short and straightforward mission, making it easy for players to acquire the Excavator plans without investing too much time or effort.
Acquiring the blueprints for the EXC-17 is possible without finishing the Miner Miracles quest by taking a more straightforward approach. To do so, players must first eliminate the mobs located at the Garrahan Mining Corporation. They can then access the mine using the tunnel in the basement and finally interact with the Project Manager Terminal that is next to the office. Following this alternative approach, players can successfully obtain the Excavator blueprints and craft the Power Armor without completing the Miner Miracles quest.
How to Craft the Armor?
People can get the Excavator Power Armor by crafting it at a Power Armor Station. The process involves placing an empty chassis on the station and adding all six required Excavator parts. To gather the necessary resources for crafting the armor, you must acquire specific materials, including 36 Black Titanium, 6 Nuclear Materials, 12 Glasses, 26 Rubber, 60 Screws, 60 Springs, 38 Oils, and 30 Gears. Once all the required components have been obtained, you can use them to construct the Excavator Power Armor. It is worth noting that this process can be repeated as many times as necessary, provided the player has enough resources.
Fallout 76 players have the opportunity to come across Excavator Power Armor modifications at various locations in Appalachia, but their discovery is not guaranteed. However, Responder Vendors offer a reliable method of obtaining these mods. To get all available Excavator modifications at a reasonable price, players can visit the vendor bot Responder at Whitespring resort or the vendor bot Chad at the amusement park. By doing so, players can conveniently upgrade their Excavator Power Armor with various enhancements. Thus, Responder Vendors are a convenient source for players seeking to enhance their power armor.
Furthermore, players can also earn Excavator mods as rewards for completing quests, events, or daily operations. Some of these events include Lode Baring and Breach and Clear, which have a higher chance of dropping Excavator Power Armor mods upon completion. Players can trade with other players or search vending machines to acquire Excavator mods. However, it’s important to note that mod availability may vary depending on the player’s vending device, and purchasing them from other players may be more expensive. In any case, having a well-modded Excavator Power Armor can provide significant advantages in the game, making it a worthwhile investment for any player.
