Atomic Heart, developed by Mundfish, is a first-person shooter genre video game with role-playing game elements. The game’s visuals are inspired by a retro-futuristic design incorporating futuristic and retro pieces. It is heavily influenced by the immersive sim genre, which emphasizes player choice and provides a highly interactive game world. Players take control of Major Comrade P-3, the protagonist in the game, as he fights against a robot revolt.

The game’s retro-futuristic design is apparent in everything from the architecture of the game’s world to the UI design.

The game world is filled with bizarre, sci-fi-inspired creatures and environments, and players can use various tools and weapons to fight their way through the game’s levels. In addition, players can save their progress using a retro-style tape recorder, adding to the game’s immersive, retro-futuristic feel.

Saving in atomic Heart

At the beginning of Atomic Heart, players cannot save their progress manually. Instead, the game will automatically create save points at specific checkpoints, reducing the risk of having to restart from the beginning if the player dies or makes a mistake.

As players advance through the game and reach Facility 3826, they will come across save rooms at crucial points in the levels. These save rooms will allow players to manually save their progress manually, giving them more control over their game experience and the ability to take breaks or explore more freely without worrying about losing their progress. Including save rooms in Atomic Heart is common in many games, particularly those with challenging or complex gameplay mechanics.

Saving Station

In Atomic Heart, players can find save rooms that contain manual save stations, which can be activated by pressing R1/RB. These rooms also typically include containers where players can collect components and items.

It’s worth noting that while save rooms allow for manual saving, Atomic Heart will still employ an autosave feature at various checkpoints and at the beginning of every level. This helps to ensure that players don’t lose progress or have to replay large sections of the game, even if they manually forget to save their progress in a save room.

Vending Machine

One of the most intriguing features of Atomic Heart is the vending machines found throughout the game. These machines, often located in save rooms, offer players the opportunity to upgrade their skills and weapons. However, players will eventually encounter a unique vending machine named NORA. This machine stands out from the rest, not only for its appearance but also for the upgrades it offers.

When interacting with NORA, players are presented with two dialogue choices. One option allows them to upgrade their weapons, while the other enables them to enhance P-3 skills. These choices are made using the controller’s left and right directional buttons. Players have the ability to navigate between upgrade menus without having to exit each one, enabling them to quickly and conveniently compare and contrast various upgrades.

Upgrade

In the skills menu of Atomic Heart, players can access various upgrades for P-3’s abilities and glove. Upgrading these skills requires fluoropolymers; resources players can acquire by defeating enemies or looting containers. The enhancements offer a variety of benefits, such as increasing the glove’s power or providing additional abilities like the ability to deflect projectiles.

The crafting screen in Atomic Heart is where players can enhance their weapons and create new ones by utilizing components they have gathered in the levels. Players can use P-3’s glove magnet to gather details from afar to ensure they have enough resources. The crafting screen also allows players to view the schematics for different weapons and upgrades throughout the game’s levels. Some schematics are hidden, while others are out in the open, waiting to be discovered.

While some resources are relatively common, others are much rarer. Players can use the resource icons in the upper right corner of the screen to identify which enemies are more likely to drop the necessary resources to advance in the game. Players should remember this when deciding which enemies to focus on during combat.

It should be noted that in Atomic Heart, some upgrades and weapons require a schematic to be crafted. Players must find these schematics throughout the game’s levels to unlock these items. Some schematics are more difficult to find than others, so players should keep a keen eye out for anything that needs to be put in the right place. Players can also use their map to navigate each level, making tracking where they’ve been and where they need to go easier.

To find rare resources in Atomic Heart, players can click on the resource icons in the screen’s top right corner to see which enemies are more likely to drop them.

By exploring levels thoroughly and defeating enemies, players can acquire the resources and schematics they need to upgrade their weapons and abilities and progress further into the game.
