Mundfish, the developer of the controversial first-person shooter Atomic Heart, recently hinted at possibly creating a sequel to the Game.
Journalist Aleksey Makarenkov in an interview on Youtube inquired a Mundfish developer to provide an evasive answer when asked about a potential sequel to Atomic Heart. However, the developer surprisingly confirmed that Atomic Heart 2 is already in development, which is exciting news for fans of the first Game released just last month on February 21, 2023.
Mundfish also divulged that the development team is currently prioritizing the creation of DLC for Atomic Heart.
Moreover, Makarenkov was informed by two dependable sources at VK Play that the Game’s sales have surpassed the amount spent on licensing and advertising “by a good margin.” Given their access to this data, it is highly probable that their claims are accurate.
Despite criticism surrounding its depiction of an alternate version of World War 2, in which the Soviet Union is victorious, the studio confirmed that plans for a follow-up are already in progress.
However, players should not expect a release anytime soon, as Mundfish is currently focused on updates and DLC for the first Game. In addition to its core FPS gameplay, Atomic Heart includes puzzle-solving and crafting mechanics to provide a break from the action.
Along with the main story missions and side quests, the Game features optional dungeons known as testing grounds, which players can explore to acquire blueprints for weapons and upgrades. Furthermore, the Game includes the following:
- RPG elements.
- Permitting players to personalize their gameplay experience by selecting from various skill trees.
- Each offers distinct abilities and character enhancements to enhance their preferred playstyle.
Atomic Heart has been likened to other games such as BioShock, Wolfenstein, and more recent Fallout titles. It has also been acknowledged as a tribute to action movies due to its sometimes exaggerated action scenes, particularly the cutscenes that are driven by the story.
Nevertheless, the Game is marred by glitches that can periodically disrupt the gameplay. Despite these infrequent hindrances, enthusiasts of any franchise or genre will likely find something to appreciate in Atomic Heart.
The frequency of glitches and issues in Atomic Heart is expected to decrease due to Mundfish’s dedication to releasing patches and updates. And the release of the upcoming DLC is anticipated to enhance the gameplay experience by making it more seamless immediately.
The studio aims to improve and refine the development process by learning from the challenges they faced while creating their first release, Atomic Heart. This approach will likely lead to the creation of a more polished and refined sequel in the future.
