The CES, the annual consumer electronics show, is widely known for hosting a large group of companies, with innovative products to offer. Following suit, Razer one of the gaming-related giant of the world unveiled another masterpiece. In the past, such innovations were in the form of modular desktop or triple screen laptops. Now Razer has moved one step ahead and went on to reveal another prototype.
The prototype by the name of Project Linda is a laptop housing for your smartphone. It’s true that most of the prototypes showcased by Razer at CES never came into production but it does ensure that there are still genius minds out there. As for the project name, it cannot be deciphered as to why the companies choose such names, but according to Razer itself, there is some meaning behind each of their product names.
The Project Linda’s housing looks pretty much similar to Razer’s very own Blade Stealth (costs a $1289.00). The difference being that it is powered by a Razer phone running on Android and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
Instead of just using a smartphone processor to power up a laptop housing, the laptop housing wholly employs an embedded smartphone. The touchpad’s spade is left empty intentionally, for you to place the smartphone in. The irony is that the recently released, Razer phone is a perfect fit for the 5.7 inch in width touchpad space.
Therefore, you would be able to use your very own smartphone as a touchpad, or a second screen or even both; whatever floats your boat. According to Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan,”Project Linda combines the best of both worlds.” He further added, “bringing a larger screen and physical keyboard to the Android environment, enhancing the experience for gaming and productivity.”
As for the laptop keyboard, it’s a Razer Chroma keyboard. The Razer Chroma keyboard is known for its multi-million color set to choose to backlight from, and along with this are a few keyboard tweaks as well. Mind you, the keyboard tweaks are, especially for Android.
As for the overall weight, it would weigh just around 3 pounds, which includes the smartphone itself too. This would make it easier to carry around too. The laptop housing has the same unibody Aluminum chassis as that of the Razer Blade Stealth. The screen size is 13.3 inches. Not only this but the screen has a quad HD-display too. In addition to this, the screen refresh rate is also the same as that of the phone itself: 120 Hz.
The essentials of the laptop would, however, be run through the phone itself, like the RAM, processor and primary OS. But there is more to this too. Surely, your phone battery won’t last long enough to power up a laptop, would it?
Therefore, there is an added 53.6Wh battery to supplement. Furthermore, you are sure to run of storage on your phone too, in case you found a regular use of such a laptop. Therefore, to aid that, there is an additional 200 GB of storage as well. Moreover, there also is a 720p webcam, along with an audio-jack and assorted USB-A and USB-C ports as well.
As of now, it’s only known to work with a Razer phone. In time, if this product does get released, it’s expected that any smartphone as long as it can fit in the 5.7-inch touchpad space, could be used too.
The only disappointment is that we are left hanging on what it’s price shall be or if it would ever come to light.
