Samsung’s very own foldable phone idea has been around for quite some time but it hasn’t b en implemented still. Though, as of now, there are hints that the phone might actually come to the shelf.
The smart phone is reckoned to be called as the Galaxy X upon launch as does the name appear on a new support page. The support page has appeared on the Samsung’s Korean website.
There isn’t much which can be gathered from the site except that the model number for such phone would be “SM-G888N0”.
It hasn’t ever been that Samsung would post its model number by itself. Thus, it means that the phone could be launching in near future.
The bad news is that this Galaxy X would only be available on South Korean shelves as per the Dutch mobile site Mobiel Kopen.
The concept of a foldable phone or tablet since several year with Samsung teasing the tech-lovers every now and then.
For those interested when the phone could possibly be revealed it’s entirely possible for Samsung to do so during its Galaxy S9’s launch next year at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The Dutch Site Let’s Go Capital depicts that there is an elbow like hinge in the middle of the device, which makes you go back to the same feel of that of the flip phones.
It is also reported that the phone would have another screen for its display when the phone is folded over. The secondary screen would probably be on the back.
According to the website, “In addition to the Galaxy X foldable smartphone we believe Samsung may also work on a Galaxy foldable tablet.”
The Korean patent office holds the document which further explains the design in one line : “A long thin tablet with the ability to fold in half like a wallet.”
Furthermore the Korea’s ET news website, states that the phone would be a 7 inch one. This phablet which would be unfolded initially can bend to form a 5 inch phone. The phone would utilise the same flexible technology as has been employed by the Tech Giant Samsung in its Curved Screen TV lineup.
According to Koh Dong-jin who is the president of mobile business at Samsung electronics, the company has set its eyes on bringing out the much awaited foldable smartphone by 2018.
Though, there are major hurdles which Samsung has to face, which means that Samsung might have to postpone the release, it these hurdles couldn’t be overcome.
As of now, he didn’t mention what exactly those problems or how would those be solved. But its apparent that with the complexities involved with such a phone, solving design problems might take more time.
All we can do now is sit back and relax, and wait for the phone to finally be released to the masses. With the hype surrounded around the phone, its apparent that Samsung would have to manufacture the Galaxy X in great numbers to fulfil the demand.
