As a result of U.S. President Trump’s recent signing of the executive order regarding the travel ban for people coming from Muslim majority countries of seven specific nations, protests have been launched in several airports around the United States.
Thousands of people have been said to be protesting all around the nation’s airports last Saturday to denounce the travel ban that was imposed.
The order bans citizens travelling from the countries of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya for a time frame of 90 days. Also within the order is a ban for refugees entering the country for at least 120 days.
Enraging Results
The travel ban has resulted in several people being detained at U.S. airports upon landing, which include those who hold green cards, visas, or even those who are permanent U.S. citizens.
Several people who have been detained were said to have been later released. In New York, a federal judge last Saturday had also issued a stay so as to help those who had been stranded in U.S. airports to evade deportation.
Several protests resulted in airports in cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and several other locations.
In Solidarity
Amongst those who joined in the demonstrations was Marty Walsh, the mayor of Boston. Mayor Walsh requested for protestors to join him for the protest on Sunday that would take place at Copley Square.
“Join us there, to stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Walsh stated. Also within the protestors was Elizabeth Warren, Senator of Massachusetts.
Warren is a public denouncer of Donald Trump and has openly talked about her views against him as he was running for president.
Reports have stated that 12 refugees were held by authorities at John F. Kennedy International Airport, and thousands have as a result protested against the ban against refugees.
