For several years, Elden Ring, the forthcoming action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, has been causing a stir in the gaming world.
Fans eagerly anticipate its release, and the hype surrounding the game has reached a fever pitch. It’s no surprise that the game’s influence has spread beyond just the gaming world and into popular culture at large.
A notable instance of this trend is an online witty fan art piece. It portrays how Elden Ring’s bosses and NPCs could appear if recreated as SpongeBob SquarePants characters. The artwork, created by a Reddit user named TuxedoCrew, is a delightful and humorous mashup of two seemingly disparate franchises.

The creator of the fan art incredibly matched each character from the Elden Ring game with their corresponding character from the SpongeBob SquarePants universe.
For example, SpongeBob SquarePants was chosen to represent Godfrey with a karate glove instead of an axe, while Serosh was portrayed as Gary, who sits on SpongeBob’s shoulder. Sandy Cheeks were transformed into Malenia, Blade of Miquella, and Squidward was given the role of Ranni. Mr. Krabs and Pearl were combined to form Godrick the Grafted, and Patrick was depicted as dual-wielding jelly-fishing nets while riding a rock, symbolizing Radahn and his horse, Leonard. Additionally, Plankton was shown as Rykard, with Karen as his wife, Tanith.
The artist took a lot of time to plan the artwork and made sure that both properties’ character traits and personalities were taken into account. The most appropriate pairing was Plankton as Rykard and Karen as Tanith, as they were shown to have eloped in the show. They also took great care in selecting Squidward as the ideal candidate to portray Ranni, considering his physical attributes, such as his pale skin and multiple limbs. This collaboration between Elden Ring and other franchises, as seen through the community’s imaginative works, showcases the game’s popularity and the remarkable ingenuity of its fans.
The fact that this particular piece of fan art has gained such traction and popularity is a testament to fans’ love and passion for Elden Ring. It shows that even before the game’s release, it has already captured the imagination and hearts of many.
In Elden Ring, the fan art being created is not just limited to the SpongeBob SquarePants mashup. Fans have been making their interpretations of the game’s characters and landscapes, sharing them on social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram. These fan creations range from stunning digital paintings to intricate cosplay costumes, all of which show the dedication and creativity of the Elden Ring community.
