In the latest trailer for the “Return to Castlevania” DLC, the creator of the popular video game Dead Cells announced the inclusion of Richter Belmont, the main character from Castlevania, which is considered to be a significant and unexpected revelation.
This DLC is expected to be the final reveal before players get to explore Dracula’s castle again. This announcement is anticipated to generate excitement among Dead Cells and Castlevania enthusiasts.
Dead Cells, an indie video game, was released in 2018 and enjoyed massive success. The game’s creators have since launched several expansions, with more than 5 million copies sold globally.
The latest expansion for Dead Cells, named “Return to Castlevania”, is scheduled to be launched on March 6th. Despite this, the game’s developers had one final surprise in store for fans, making it clear that Dead Cells has been an unexpected triumph for the independent gaming industry.
Motion Twin, the developer of Dead Cells, has provided some final hints about the upcoming paid expansion for the game, which is based on Castlevania, before its launch. They have revealed that players will have the opportunity to play as Richter Belmont, an unlockable character. The expansion, titled Return to Castlevania, has been described by Motion Twin and Evil Empire, its subsidiary, as “a love letter” to the original game.
The recently unveiled gameplay trailer for the upcoming Dead Cells DLC features various references to the classic platform series by Konami. These nods can be observed as players explore Dracula’s Castle within the game’s two new biomes.
Castlevania, a popular video game franchise that dates back to 1986, has spawned numerous sequels, spinoffs, and similar games.
Konami, the franchise’s publisher, has not revealed any plans to release new titles, but it has removed the Castlevania Advance Collection from its catalog in 2021. The forthcoming Dead Cells DLC is expected to deliver an authentic Castlevania experience, including battles against iconic foes such as Dracula and Death.
Richter Belmont, a well-known character in the series, will be a playable option, adding to the excitement surrounding the DLC’s release.
Richter Belmont made his debut as the main protagonist in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, a video game released in 1993. He then appeared as a secondary character in the direct sequel to the game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, both of which are considered some of the most outstanding games in the Castlevania franchise.
Richter Belmont will also be featured in a new Castlevania Netflix series in the future. But before that, gamers can relive playing as the character in the upcoming Dead Cells DLC, if they manage to find the secret level where he is playable.
The upcoming Dead Cells Return to Castlevania DLC is a tribute to the early Castlevania games, and the developers have expressed their admiration for the series, calling it a “love letter.” The Castlevania franchise is said to have had a significant impact on the development of Dead Cells.
Earlier, the developers had revealed that players would be able to wear costumes of characters from the Castlevania animated series, such as Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, for a “roleplaying” experience.
However, it has now been confirmed that players will be able to play as Richter Belmont, one of the most iconic characters from the Castlevania franchise.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, the developers at Evil Empire provided insights on what to expect from the Return to Castlevania expansion. Benjamin Laulan, a development team member, discussed how this DLC is the most ambitious project they have undertaken so far, stating that it is “twice as big” as any of their previous expansions. He emphasized that this isn’t just a claim they make for all their DLCs, but a fact based on the content and scale of the upcoming expansion. Therefore, players can expect a massive expansion with much new content.
Laulan provided further details on what to expect from Dead Cells’ Return to Castlevania. The expansion is said to be the largest one yet, with twice the content of previous DLCs. It will feature some Castlevania characters, including Richter Belmont, Alucard, Dracula, and Maria Renard. The storyline will be new, and players will encounter three new bosses, one of which promises to be a unique and exciting experience.
In addition to the new characters and storyline, the expansion will offer two new biomes based on classic Castlevania levels and a fresh soundtrack. These elements combine to create an experience like a new Castlevania game within Dead Cells.
