It has been almost five years since the release of PlayStation 4 which means the next generation Sony console might be on its way. Recently there have been some rumors about the full-fledged PlayStation 5 which is exactly what we are going to talk about today. Here we have listed down all the latest leaks and rumors surrounding the PS5 so without further ado let’s get started.
Specifications:
The PlayStation 5 will most likely be powered by the AMD Ryzen processor. This is said to be a confirmed report by SemiAccurate’s Charlie Demerjian as he claims to have access to information regarding Sony’s PlayStation 5 devkits.
According to Demerjian, it will be 8-core Zen CPU and will be based on the AMD’s Navi architecture. Nothing can be said about how much this will increase the performance as Navi architecture is yet to be released. All we know for now that it will feature cutting edge 7nm technology, which means more performance and less power consumption.
Also, AMD previously linked its name to “Scalability” and “Nextgen Memory” which suggests that it will most likely come with GDDR6 memory. The APU will, of course, be customized for the console which is usual.
Another report from the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company said the organization is working on another gaming chip. On the off chance that devkits have made it out to engineers, new hardware production would have to increase. The report doesn’t make reference to Sony or PlayStation by name.
On contrary to Charlie Demerjian’s report, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier said a source with information of Sony’s arrangements chuckled that the supposed specs were not precise. As indicated by Schreier’s announcing, early PS5 devkits might be out in the wild, however, most engineers appear to be ignorant of them.
Upgraded VR Support:
The SemiAccurate’s report also discusses the VR support for the PlayStation 5 saying that the console is developed from scratch with VR as a core feature. The PlayStation VR has never been really exciting, it does deliver the experience and the best value for money. The PS4 Pro specs were upgraded for better VR support but starting from the ground up with virtual reality support in mind will no doubt bring a lot of possibilities for developers.
Backward Compatibility Support:
Backward Compatibility has always been an issue with PlayStation, the PS4 is also not backward compatible. There have been some reports that PS5 will support it, a patent application published in Japan stated that a computing device could be configured in such a way in order to “facilitate backward compatibility.” No details were mentioned by the name of Sony or the console but the diagram shows a “Legacy Application,” likely referring to software for the PlayStation 4 or earlier systems.
Release Date:
The PlayStation 5 will most likely be released in 2021 as in May 2018, John Kedora, the Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO told reporters, “We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher into the future.” He also remarked that the PlayStation 4 has entered the final phase of its cycle.
This will most likely be the last generation of consoles as now the gaming industry is shifting towards to streaming. Google has already showcased the beta version of their Project Stream gaming service. The Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that there will be one more generation of consoles before the industry completely moves to a streaming-only model.
So this is all that we know for now, we will keep updating once more details are available. I hope you enjoyed the roundup, if you have any queries then make sure to drop down a comment below.
