AMD has finally strike back with a new GPU to compete in the entry-level range. The new AMD Radeon RX 590 has been launched recently starting at $280. It is basically a refresh of the refresh if that makes sense.
Back in 2016 when RX 480 came out, it was one of the best entry-level GPUs that delivered 1080p 60 FPS performance with maxed out settings in most titles. Then AMD released a refreshed version, the RX 580 in 2017. Now maintaining the trend they have launched the Radeon RX 590 which offers as much you would need for FHD gaming at a reasonable price.
If you are looking for an upgrade on this Black Friday then RX 590 would be my recommendation The gaming performance is really impressive you can run most of latest games at Ultra settings and expect to get close to 60 FPS. In some games, however, like Far Cry 5, Final Fantasy XV etc you might need to turn down a few graphic switches to hit the sweet 60 FPS mark.
You can also try out 1440p in lightweight titles like CS GO, OverWatch and this card will not disappoint you. This graphics card basically lies somewhere between the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 in terms of performance. In my opinion, the price is justified and it is the best deal that you can get right now.
The RX 590 sports a 12nm process which helps to achieve even higher clock speeds on the same Polaris architecture used in other RX series GPUs. This card offers a base clock of 1.469 GHz and a Boost clock of 1.545 GHz which is a great improvement compared to the 1.340/1.257 GHz speeds of 2017’s 580. Along with that, you get 8 Gigabytes of GDDR5 256-bit memory featuring a bandwidth of 256 GB/s.
Moving on to some other specs, it has 36 compute units, 144 texture units, and 5.7B transistor count. Also, there are 32 ROPs and 2304 stream processors.
So these are all the main highlight specs of the AMD Radeon RX 590. One thing that I would like to mention here is all the upgrades results in slightly more power from the wall than an RX 580. According to AMD this card requires a total 225W draw from the power supply so make sure you have the right PSU and then you are all good to go.
The card is also bulky and if you have a compact PC case then this is not the one for you. Other than that it is a really good upgrade by AMD and I’d recommend you to check out this card if you are upgrading your PC this holiday.
