Origin isn’t just an online gaming platform but also has their very own laptops literally meant for gaming purposes. Though, every gaming laptop is surely a working powerhouse and so is the Origin ND 17. The ND 17 is a Mobile VR Ready Workstation and combined with some pretty heavy specs, it would be hard to beat this laptop for even the top contenders.
With the latest eight generation of desktop processors, boasting dual graphics card in SLI, surely the performance which it delivers is expected to be quite solid. The laptop can also house up to three m.2 SSDs (Solid State Drives). On top of that, you can also add a couple of hard drives as well, in case you feel that storage is an issue.
Design
It has some pretty sleek looks and yet offers a blend of aggressiveness. There are red lines backlit by LEDs that emerge from the sides of the laptop up to the Origin Logo, just above the center of the lid. This makes the laptop a niche for gamers. When you open the lid, you are greeted with a 17.3 inches high definition IPS display.
There are many options to choose from too. In case you are going in for a metallic color coat, you can choose from Eternal Pink, Sabot Grey, Atmos Blue, Evolve Green, Horizon Yellow, Epic Purple, ORIGIN PC Red or the ORIGIN PC White. Not only this, but you can also get a custom paint job, with an Exclusive Origin Design. The Design can be either True Fire, True Fire ORIGIN Red, True Fire Atmos Blue, Neurons, Battle-Tested, Shredder Green, Shredder Blue or the Shredder Red. The Panel Design, of course, is made up of Origin PC Black.
For the HD UV Printing, you have options from Low Poly Blue, Low Poly Red, Low Poly Green, Neurons Print, Blue Neurons and Flare.
As for the laptop’s size, it has a height of 1.9”, Width of 17” and a depth of 12”. Moreover, with a weight of 12 lbs the laptop isn’t really portable, nevertheless, it is still easier to take it somewhere else, than a desktop PC which has to be set up again.
Ports
The laptop has a variety of ports. There are two high-speed USB 3.1 Type-C ports which also function as Thunderbolt 3 ports when needed for instance to connect external storage devices. There is also a built-in 6 in 1 Media Card Reader. There are also two On-Board LAN ports too. Not only this, but there are a whopping 5 USB 3.0 ports too.
Display
You have two options to choose from; either a Full HD 1920 x 1080 17.3″ IPS G-SYNC Matte Display or a 4K QFHD 3840 x 2160 17.3″ IPS G-SYNC Matte Display. Of course, the latter is a better option, though will take a toll on the battery life.
The 1080p Display has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the 4K screen is in matte.
The colors on the screen were vibrant and resulted in a crisp image quality with vivid hues.
To power the Display, the laptop has latest Nvidia graphics card i.e. GTX 1080 or GTX 1070. You can opt for a single Graphic Card option or even a Dual one. This can offer a Video Memory when combined together of up to a whopping 16 GB! This surely means that your laptop would still be able to run the games even after 3-4 years down the lane.
Keyboard and TrackPad
The keyboard is pretty amazing since it isn’t just backlit, but you can also customize the backlight to your liking. There are three different lighting zones of the keyboard and the top panel can also be customized with unlimited color options. Not only this, but the laptop is relatively easier to type on even if you are going to type in the dark. Also, since the laptop is full-sized, there is also a dedicated numpad for you to crunch some numbers.
Furthermore, the TrackPad is also quite spacious and easier to use. This is because the multi-gesture trackpad boasts smooth scrolling and is quite precise. You won’t feel any hassle dragging the cursor from one corner of the screen to the other.
Security
There is a fingerprint reader on the laptop too along with a biometric reader, thus providing enough security features to lock down your machine when you aren’t using. It makes it convenient to log in again rather than typing in a password/pin which can easily be seen by someone looking from the corner of their eyes. Furthermore, there is also a Kensington Lock through which you can tether your laptop to a desk while you are working on it remotely.
Audio
For sound, there is an Integrated High-Definition Audio powered by Sound Blaster Xfi MB5 with external 7.1 support. The sound comes out nice from the speakers and is good enough for a laptop.
Webcam
There is a Built-in 2.0 FHD Video Camera as well, which lets you take really good quality photos, and is exceptionally well for video conferencing when compared with other laptops in the industry.
Connectivity
The laptop has a Bluetooth 4.1 support and along with that, there is an integrated 802.11 AC wireless network card as well, for you to connect to a Wi-Fi network. The Wireless card is a Killer™ Wireless AC 1535 Dual Band or an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9260, depending on the model you choose.
Warranty
There are various warranties available all of which offer Lifetime 24/7 U.S. Based support along with a lifetime of free labor. The parts replacement warranty varies from a year to three years, depending on your taste. There is a custom warranty option as well if you want that. The best thing is that there is a 45 Day No Dead Pixel Guarantee which comes free or you can also opt for a 90 Day No Dead Pixel Guarantee by paying an extra fee.
Configurations
The base model price starts at $2,345. The processor starts at an Intel Core i5 7600K 4-Core 3.8GHz (4.2GHz TurboBoost) and goes up to an Intel Core i7 8700K 6-Core 3.7GHz (4.7GHz TurboBoost). The RAM also ranges starting from 8 GB to a whopping 64 GB. Furthermore, a SATA SSD is offered from 120 GB till 2TB and the PCIe one from 256 GB to 2 TB. There is also an HDD option and a hybrid one too. Since SSDs consume much less power, we would advise you to go for an SSD.
If this isn’t a working powerhouse then what is?
