The release of the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox is just around the corner and the whole console gaming world is hyped for their release. Naturally then, there are certain rumors and speculations regarding their features and today we have one particular leak regarding the next PlayStation that might interest you all. Sony is rumored to launch both the regular PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro at the same time.
In case you aren’t familiar with how these game consoles are released, Sony announced the PlayStation 4 on February 2013 and then launched the jacked-up PlayStation 4 Pro on September 2016. Think of it as a mid-cycle refresh. Microsoft did the same with the Xbox One as it was launched in November 2013 and the Xbox One X was launched on November 2017.
You may have noticed a pattern here that the base console gets released first and then we get the high-end version after a couple of years. The fact that we’ll get two devices at the same time seems odd yet familiar at the same time. Smartphone manufacturers are doing this and console manufacturers are following suit as it may seem. The fact that the high-end variant is called Pro makes it even more hilarious.
Coming back to the PlayStation 5, we know for a fact that even the “base model” will be quite a powerful device. Sony hasn’t given use official numbers yet but it has implied that it will have one of the most advanced gaming hardware at the time of launch. The PS4 Pro was crazy powerful and the “base” PS5 will be even more powerful than that. This does make us wonder what kind of abomination the PS5 Pro might be.
What we do know about the upcoming PS5 or the PS5 “series” is that the consoled will have a 7nm AMD Ryzen CPU under the hood along with an AMD Radeon Navi GPU. These do sound like top-tier specs but oh it gets better. This will also be the first time in gaming console history that they will have an SSD built-in. You can say kiss long loading times goodbye after this.
You can count Sony out for dropping any further specifications or numbers for a couple of months at the very least. In fact, we don’t even know how the new consoles will look like. Till then we have to deal with leaks and speculations. They say that the price difference between the regular and Pro model will be in the $100-150 range. This isn’t a huge margin and if the PS5 Pro is that much better than the PS5 then the majority will definitely go for the higher-end version.
